Abstract

A water filter is a device used to purify water by reducing impurities. Due to the limited availability of clean water, many communities rely on river water. One such river frequently used by local residents for bathing, washing, and sanitation is the Cisadane River. This study aimed to determine the most effective filter composition for improving water quality parameters, including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, iron (Fe), and ammonia (NH₃). The research was conducted from January to March 2025 at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University, and the Health Laboratory Technical Implementation Unit of Serang Regency. The experimental method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of two treatments (filter compositions) with three replications: composition 1 (15 cm silica sand, 15 cm rubble, 15 cm activated carbon, 15 cm zeolite, and 10 cm sponge) and composition 2 (20 cm silica sand, 15 cm rubble, 15 cm activated carbon, 10 cm zeolite, and 10 cm sponge). The results showed that both compositions improved water quality in terms of TDS, pH, Fe, and ammonia levels. The best performance was observed in composition 2, which produced the highest average pH (7,79 ± 0,11), and reduced TDS by 64% (100,33 ± 1,53 mg/L), Fe by 97% (0,013 ± 0,02 mg/L), and ammonia by 90% (0,05 ± 0,09 mg/L). The highest water discharge rate was found in composition 1, with an average flow rate of 0,029 L/s. Analysis of variance indicated that the filter composition had a significant effect (p < 0,05) on the TDS, pH, Fe, and ammonia levels of Cisadane River water.

Additional Information: Filter air merupakan alat untuk menjernihkan air sehingga kotoran dalam air berkurang. Terbatasnya air bersih menyebabkan banyak masyarakat menggunakan air dari aliran sungai. Salah satu sungai yang masih sering digunakan masyarakat untuk kegiatan mandi, cuci, kakus yaitu Sungai Cisadane. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan komposisi terbaik dalam memperbaiki kualitas air Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), pH, besi, dan amonia. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari-Maret 2025. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Budidaya Perairan, Fakultas Pertanian, Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa dan Unit Pelaksana Teknis Laboratorium Kesehatan Kabupaten Serang. Metode uji coba yang digunakan yaitu Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 2 perlakuan (komposisi) 3 ulangan yaitu komposisi 1 (pasir silika 15 cm, rubble 15 cm, karbon aktif 15 cm, batu zeolit 15 cm, spons 10 cm) dan komposisi 2 (pasir silika 20 cm, rubble 15 cm, karbon aktif 15 cm, batu zeolit 10 cm, spons 10 cm). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kedua komposisi mampu memperbaiki kualitas air TDS, pH, besi, dan amonia. Perlakuan terbaik didapatkan oleh komposisi 2 (pasir silika 20 cm, rubble 15 cm, karbon aktif 15 cm, batu zeolit 10 cm, spons 10 cm) dengan nilai pH tertinggi sebesar 7,79 ± 0,11 dan penurunan kadar TDS sebesar 64% (100,33 ± 1,53 mg/L), kadar besi 97% (0,013 ± 0,02 mg/L), serta kadar amonia 90% (0,05 ± 0,09 mg/L). Debit air tertinggi dihasilkan oleh komposisi 1 dengan rata-rata waktu 0,029 liter/detik. Hasil analisis sidik ragam menunjukkan bahwa filter air berpengaruh nyata terhadap parameter TDS, pH, besi, dan amonia air Sungai Cisadane (p < 0,05).
