Abstract
Water filter is a tool which commonly used to purify the stop into clean water by reducing the impurities in it. The limited availability of clean water has led many communities to use river as their main water sources. The river which frequently used for bathing, washing, and sanitation (MCK) activities is the Cisadane River in Tangerang Regency. This study aims to determine the best composition for improving water quality in terms of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), pH, iron (Fe), and ammonia using the multi-layer water filtration. The sampling method which used in this study was simple random sampling. The research was conducted from January to March 2025. The iron concentration testing was carried out at the Health Laboratory Unit (UPT) in Serang Regency. The study consisted of three stages: designing the filter device, conducting trials, and testing water quality. The water quality parameters measured included physical (TDS) and chemical (pH, iron, and ammonia) aspects. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design with two treatments (combinations) and three replications: Combination 1: 15 cm silica sand, 15 cm rubble, 15 cm activated carbon, 15 cm zeolite, and 10 cm sponge. Combination 2: 20 cm silica sand, 10 cm rubble, 20 cm activated carbon, 10 cm zeolite, and 10 cm sponge. The result showed that, the multi-layer filtration device using both filter media combinations effectively improved water quality. The best treatment was Combination 2, which reduced TDS by 73%, ammonia by 100%, and iron by 98%, while also increasing the water’s pH toward a more neutral level. Although there was no statistically significant difference between the two filter compositions (p > 0.5).

Additional Information: | Filter air merupakan alat yang banyak digunakan untuk menjernihkan air sehingga kotoran yang terkandung di dalamnya berkurang. Terbatasnya air bersih menyebabkan banyak masyarakat menggunakan air dari aliran sungai. Salah satu sungai yang masih sering digunakan masyarakat untuk kegiatan MCK (Mandi, Cuci, Kakus) yaitu Sungai Cisadane, Kabupaten Tangerang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan kombinasi terbaik dalam memperbaiki kualitas air Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), pH, besi, dan amonia pada alat filtrasi bertingkat. Pengambilan sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu metode simple random sampling. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari-Maret 2025. Pengujian kualitas kadar besi (Fe) dilakukan di UPT Laboratorium Kesehatan Kabupaten Serang. Penelitian ini terdiri dari tiga tahap yaitu perancangan alat filter, uji coba alat, dan uji kualitas air. Kualitas air yang diukur yaitu parameter fisika (TDS) dan kimia (pH, besi, dan amonia). Metode uji coba yang digunakan yaitu Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 2 perlakuan (kombinasi) 3 ulangan yaitu kombinasi 1 (pasir silika 15 cm, rubble 15 cm, karbon aktif 15 cm, batu zeolit 15 cm, spons 10 cm) dan kombinasi 2 (pasir silika 20 cm, rubble 10 cm, karbon aktif 20 cm, batu zeolit 10 cm, spons 10 cm). Berdasarkan data penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan alat filtrasi bertingkat dengan dua kombinasi yang berbeda mampu memperbaiki kualitas air. Perlakuan terbaik diperoleh oleh kombinasi 2 karena mampu menurunkan kadar TDS, amonia, dan kadar besi berturut-turut 73%, 100% dan 98%, serta menaikkan pH air ke arah yang lebih netral. Seluruh hasil uji kualitas air filtrasi dari kedua kombinasi signifikan (p > 0,5). | |||||||||
