Abstract
Generation Z growing up in the digitalization era, has broad access to modern culture but also holds the potential to perserve local traditions due to their appreciation for freedom of expression and authentic experiences. However, the rapid advancement of technology and the influx of foreign cultures have led to a decline in interest in ubrug Banten, making it crucial to understand how folk theater shapes Generations Z’s self expression in the digitalization era. This study aims to describe how generation Z interprets ubrug as a form of self expression and how they implement its meaning to ensure its relevance in the digitalization era. The research is grounded in George Herbert Mead’s Symbolic Interactionism Theory. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied using a case study methods within an interpretative paradigm. The results of this study indicate that Generation Z in Banten perceives ubrug as a cultural communication medium conveyed through visual and verbal symbols such as costumes, dialogues, and regional languages. They also see ubrug as a platform for social expression and critique of life’s realities. Participation in ubrug contributes to personal development, fostering self-confidence and social skills. To remain relevant in the digital era, ubrug must adapt to social media, digital content. And language that resonates with the younger generation, ensuring its preservation as part of Banten’s cultural identity.

| Additional Information: | Generasi Z yang tumbuh di era digitalisasi memiliki akses luas terhadap budaya modern, tetapi juga berpotensi melestarikan budaya lokal karena menghargai kebebasan berekspresi dan pengalaman yang autentik. Namun, pesatnya kemajuan teknologi dan masuknya budaya asing menyebabkan menurunnya minat terhadap kesenian ubrug Banten, sehingga penting untuk memahami bagaimana teater rakyat membentuk ekspresi diri Generasi Z di Era Digitalisasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana Generasi Z memaknai kesenian ubrug sebagai bagian dari ekspresi diri serta mengimplementasikan makna kesenian ubrug agar tetap relevan di era digitalisasi. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Teori Interaksi Simbolik oleh George Herbert Mead. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode studi kasus dan paradigma interpretatif. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Generasi Z di Banten memaknai kesenian ubrug sebagai sarana komunikasi budaya melalui simbol visual dan verbal seperti kostum, dialog, dan bahasa daerah. Mereka juga melihat ubrug sebagai wadah ekspresi sosial dan kritik kehidupan. Keterlibatan dalam ubrug membantu pengembangan diri, membangun kepercayaan diri, serta keterampilan sosial. Agar tetap relevan di era digital, ubrug perlu beradaptasi dengan media sosial, konten digital dan bahasa yang lebih akrab bagi generasi muda, sehingga tetap lestari sebagai identitas budaya Banten. | ||||||
