Abstract

Carbon footprint as a cause of global warming is a socio-science issue that requires the role of individuals to solve it through science education using science literacy skills. However, based on the PISA survey, the science literacy of students in Indonesia is still low due to the lack of high-level thinking questions and test instruments that raise socio-scientific issues such as carbon footprints. This study aims to develop a Socio-Scientific Issue (SSI)-based test instrument to measure students' science literacy on the topic of carbon footprints that cause global warming. This research uses the Research and Development model with 3 stages (planning, development and follow-up). Based on the results of the study, the test instrument was declared valid with the Aikens V index meeting the eligibility standard of 0.78 for each item. The empirical test conducted showed that the instrument had high reliability, with a Cronbach's Alpha reliability coefficient for multiple choice questions of 0.893 and for description questions of 0.879 which met the eligibility standard of 0.70. In addition, the differentiating power and difficulty level of the items were within the appropriate range, indicating that the items were able to differentiate science literacy skills among students effectively. In addition, the results showed that students' science literacy skills are still at a low level, namely the basic level or level 2, so it is necessary to improve through multimodal text-based learning design

Additional Information: Jejak karbon sebagai penyebab pemanasan global merupakan isu sosio-sains yang membutuhkan peran individu untuk menyelesaikannya lewat pendidikan sains menggunakan kemampuan literasi sains. Namun berdasarkan survei PISA literasi sains peserta didik di Indonesia masih rendah karena kurangnya soal berpikir tingkat tinggi dan instrumen tes yang mengangkat isu sosio-sains seperti jejak karbon. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mengetahui kelayakan instrumen tes berbasis Socio-Scientific Issue (SSI) untuk mengukur literasi sains peserta didik pada topik jejak karbon penyebab pemanasan global serta mengetahui kemampuan literasi sains peserta didik. Penelitian ini menggunakan model Research and Development dengan 3 tahap (perencanaan, pengembangan dan tindak lanjut. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, instrumen tes dinyatakan valid dengan indeks Aikens V memenuhi standar kelayakan 0,78 setiap butir soalnya. Uji empirik yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa instrumen memiliki reliabilitas tinggi, dengan koefisien reliabilitas Cronbach's Alpha untuk soal pilihan ganda 0,893 dan untuk soal uraian 0,879 yang memenuhi standar kelayakan 0,70. Selain itu, daya pembeda dan tingkat kesukaran dari butir-butir soal berada dalam rentang yang sesuai, menandakan bahwa soal mampu membedakan kemampuan literasi sains antar siswa secara efektif. Selain itu, dari hasil penelitian ditunjukkan bahwa kemampuan literasi sains peserta didik masih berada pada level atau tingkat yang rendah yaitu tingkat dasar atau level 2 sehingga perlu upaya peningkatan lewat desain pembelajaran berbasis teks multimodal.
