Abstract

In today’s digital era, education must adapt to technological advancements to create relevant, flexible, and effective learning. The low learning outcomes of students in trigonometry demand innovations in instructional approaches that can enhance students' understanding and engagement. This study aims to develop a blended learning design based on a Small Private Online Course (SPOC) for trigonometry material in grade XI at SMAN 5 Kota Serang. The research employed the research and development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The product developed was a learning platform based on Tutor LMS, containing instructional videos, interactive quizzes, downloadable PDF materials, and discussion forums. The research results indicate that the instructional design is highly feasible based on expert validation, with the feasibility score falling into the "very good" category. The effectiveness of the design was demonstrated by an improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with an average N-Gain of 61.9% in the small group trial and 57% in the field test, both categorized as moderate. Regarding student readiness, 91.8% had access to appropriate technology and internet connectivity, while 89.8% were capable of proficiently operating digital devices and the learning platform. Students’ responses to the implementation of SPOC-based blended learning were also highly positive. About 83.7% of students reported being motivated to study independently online, and 91.8% actively sought additional learning resources to deepen their understanding. Furthermore, 77.6% actively participated in online discussions, and 85.7% demonstrated discipline in completing online assignments. Teachers also responded positively to the ease of managing learning through the LMS. Thus, SPOC-based blended learning is deemed feasible, effective, and beneficial in enhancing conceptual understanding of trigonometry. This model can serve as an innovative learning alternative to address the challenges of teaching abstract mathematical concepts using technology at the secondary education level.
