Abstract
Melon (Cucumis melo L) is a fruit crop with high market demand. The limited availability of superior melon seed varieties in Indonesia poses a challenge for production. The development of hybrid varieties is essential to meet the demand for high-quality seeds. This study aims to evaluate the phenotypic characteristics and yield components of 5 potential melon variety genotypes. The experiment was conducted at the PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari Experimental Garden, Cikarawang Village, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency, from November 2023 to February 2024. The research used a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 5 treatments: 3 candidate superior melon varieties (BC-1, BC-2, BC-3) and 2 comparison varieties (Kinanti and Alisha). Each treatment was planted in six experimental blocks, with 6 plants per block, totaling 180 plants. Observed parameters included fruit shape, flesh color, skin color, fruit length, fruit width, fruit ratio, fruit weight, flesh thickness, number of seeds per fruit, and fruit sweetness. The results showed that genotype treatments had a highly significant effect on fruit weight, width, length, ratio, flesh thickness, number of seeds per fruit, and a significant difference in fruit sweetness. Notable variation was observed in the fruit shape of BC-1 and fruit sweetness of BC-2, with BC-2 showing the highest sweetness. Additionally, BC-1, BC-2, and BC-3 had fewer seeds per fruit compared to the comparison varieties, Kinanti and Alisha.

Keterbatasan ketersediaan benih varietas unggul melon di Indonesia menjadi kendala produksi. Perakitan varietas hibrida sangat diperlukan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan benih unggul. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penampilan fenotipik karakter hasil serta komponen hasil pada 5 genotipe calon varietas melon. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen yang dilaksanakan di Kebun Percobaan PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari, Desa Cikarawang, Kecamatan Dramaga, Kabupaten Bogor. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2023 – Februari 2024. Metode penelitian yang digunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) 1 Faktorial dengan 5 perlakuan terdiri 3 calon varietas melon unggulan (BC-1, BC-2, BC-3) dan 2 varietas pembanding (Kinanti dan Alisha). Setiap perlakuan ditanam dalam enam blok percobaan, dengan 6 tanaman per blok. Total tanaman yang diuji berjumlah 180 tanaman. parameter yang diamati adalah bentuk buah, warna daging buah, warna kulit buah, panjang buah, lebar buah, rasio buah, bobot buah, ketebalan daging buah, jumlah biji perbuah, kemanisan buah. hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya pengaruh perlakukan genotipe sangat nyata terhadap bobot buah, lebar buah, panjang buah, rasio buah, ketebalan daging buah, jumlah biji per buah, dan berbeda nyata terhadap kemanisan buah. Keragaman mencolok terdapat pada bentuk buah BC-1 dan kemanisan buah BC-2, dengan BC-2 memiliki kemanisan tertinggi, selain itu genotipe BC-1, BC-2, BC-3 memiliki keunggulan jumlah biji perbuah yang lebih sedikit dibandingkan genotipe pembanding Kinanti dan Alisha. | |||||||||
