Abstract
The purpose of this research is to know student's response in applying small group discussion technique in teaching reading comprehension, and to know the impact of Small Group Discussion have on students’ reading comprehension learning. To find the data, the researcher used pre-experimental teaching. The researcher conducted the experimental teaching for four meetings at SMPN 1 Pandeglang. The population and the sample of this research are all of the seven grade students of SMPN 1 Pandeglang, which the number of them was 30 students. The result of this research, the researcher found that using small group discussion technique can reading comprehension. The students have positive responds towards the Small Group as to student ability in reading comprehension. The researcher used Spearman Brown and Pearson Product Moment formula in order to make the instruments were valid and reliable. In testint the hypothesis, the researcher used t-test formula to know the effectiveness of using small group discussion as an illustration media toward students’ reading skill in narrative text at seven grade of SMPN 1 Pandeglang. The calculation showed that the result of t_count is higher than t_table(61.4096 ≥ 2.00) with the significance 0.05 (5%). It can be concluded that there is the effectiveness of using small group discussion toward students reading skill at seven grade of SMPN 1 Pandeglang.

| Additional Information: | Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui respon siswa dalam menerapkan teknik diskusi kelompok kecil dalam mengajar pemahaman membaca, dan untuk mengetahui dampak dari Diskusi Kelompok Kecil terhadap pembelajaran pemahaman membaca siswa. Untuk menemukan data, peneliti menggunakan pengajaran pra-eksperimental. Peneliti melakukan pengajaran eksperimental selama empat pertemuan di SMPN 1 Pandeglang. Populasi dan sampel penelitian ini adalah semua siswa kelas tujuh SMPN 1 Pandeglang, yang jumlahnya 30 siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan bahwa menggunakan teknik diskusi kelompok kecil dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca. Siswa memiliki respon positif terhadap Kelompok Kecil terkait dengan kemampuan siswa dalam pemahaman membaca. Peneliti menggunakan rumus Spearman Brown dan Pearson Product Moment untuk membuat instrumen tersebut valid dan reliabel. Dalam menguji hipotesis, peneliti menggunakan rumus t-test untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan diskusi kelompok kecil sebagai media ilustrasi terhadap keterampilan membaca siswa dalam teks naratif di kelas tujuh SMPN 1 Pandeglang. Hasil perhitungan menunjukkan bahwa hasil t_hitung lebih besar dari t_tabel (61,4096 ≥ 2,00) dengan signifikansi 0,05 (5%). Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat efektivitas penggunaan diskusi kelompok kecil terhadap keterampilan membaca siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Pandeglang. | |||||||||
