Abstract

Science communication skills in science learning are very important to develop because they are in accordance with the expected achievements in the Graduate Competency Standards set by Permendikbudristek Number 5 of 2022. Based on interviews with teachers and students at one of the junior high schools in Cilegon City, the reality at school, students' science communication skills still tend to be low, this is evidenced by the non-achievement of science communication indicators orally and in writing. This study aims to analyse the effect of the Flipped Classroom learning model on the science communication skills of seventh grade students on the theme of Various Variety of Living Things conducted at one of the junior high schools in Cilegon City in the 2023/2024 academic year. The method used in this research is Quasi Experiment with the research design of Nonequivalent Pretest Postest Control Group Design. The research sample was 60 students consisting of 30 experimental and control class students each. The data collection techniques used were tests and observations. Based on the results of hypothesis testing with Independent Sample T-Test, it can be concluded that the Flipped Classrooom model has an effect on improving the science communication skills of seventh grade students on the theme of Various Variety of Living Things with a Sig value. (2 tailed) of 0.014 or <0.05. Based on the results of the calculation of the model effectiveness test with the N-Gain score test, the average value of the Flipped Classroom model of 30% is included in the ineffective category to improve science communication skills. Even so, the results of the effect size calculation which measures the amount of influence caused show a value of 0.652879424 which indicates that even though it is not effective, the Flipped Classroom model provides a medium-sized influence on the science communication skills of class VII theme of Various Variety of Living Things, this is indicated by an increase in the pretest score of 35.83 and posttest 58.03 and the results of nontest scores in the form of observation sheets 74.16.

Additional Information: Keterampilan komunikasi sains dalam pembelajaran IPA sangat penting untuk dikembangkan karena sesuai dengan capaian yang diharapkan pada Standar Kompetensi Lulusan yang ditetapkan Permendikbudristek Nomor 5 Tahun 2022. Berdasarkan wawancara dengan guru dan peserta didik di salah satu SMP di Kota Cilegon, realita yang ada di sekolah, keterampilan komunikasi sains peserta didik masih cenderung rendah hal ini dibuktikan dengan ketidaktercapaian indikator komunikasi sains secara lisan dan tulisan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh model pembelajaran Flipped Classroom terhadap keterampilan komunikasi sains peserta didik kelas VII pada tema Aneka Ragam Makhluk Hidup yang dilakukan di salah satu sekolah SMPN Kota Cilegon tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Quasi Experiment dengan desain penelitian Nonequivalent Pretest-Postest Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 60 peserta didik yang terdiri dari masing-masing 30 peserta didik kelas eksperimen dan kontrol. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah tes dan observasi. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis dengan Independent Sample T-Test dapat disimpulkan bahwa model Flipped Classrooom berpengaruh meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi sains peserta didik kelas VII tema Aneka Ragam Makhluk Hidup dengan nilai Sig. (2-tailed) sebesar 0,014 atau < 0,05. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan Uji efektivitas model dengan uji N-Gain score menunjukkan nilai rata-rata model Flipped Classroom sebesar 30% termasuk dalam kategori tidak efektif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi sains. Meskipun begitu, hasil perhitungan effect size yang mengukur besaran pengaruh yang ditimbulkan menunjukkan nilai sebesar 0,652879424 yang menandakan bahwa meskipun tidak efektif, namun model Flipped Classroom memberikan pengaruh dengan ukuran sedang terhadap keterampilan komunikasi sains kelas VII tema Aneka Ragam Makhluk Hidup, hal ini ditunjukkan dengan adanya peningkatan nilai pretest 35,83 dan posttest 58,03 serta hasil nilai nontes berupa lembar observasi 74,16.
