Abstract

Background: Many people think that Gen Z is the millennial generation. No. They are not millennials. In fact they are very different. Believe it or not, millennials are all grown up. Currently, Millennials already have homes and are pursuing careers. Currently there is a generation with a larger number, more than 72.8 million. Compared to millennials, Gen Z are pure digital natives. They were born and grew up accompanied by technology. Their lifestyle and behavior are also different from millennials. Generation Z is a generation that is active in using the internet, they accept social media as something to be taken for granted, with the characteristics of generation Z, this generation will be the generation that plays an important role in the development of Indonesia and even in the world. The problem is that generation Z users of social media are dominated by teenagers. The negative impact of excessive use of social media by teenagers can result in addictive behavior which is known as social networking addiction. This behavior is caused by various things, from a lack of parental supervision to a lack of digital media literacy among teenagers. Results: Gen Z has another reason for using social media, namely FOMO or fear of missing out or the phenomenon of worrying about being left behind by trends. Through social media, Gen Z gets whatever information they want through the search column or hashtags. Another motive for Gen Z using social media is to increase their network or friends and want to inspire many people. Suggestion: Based on these conclusions, the researcher provides suggestions that can be used as input for Generation Z, especially the Generation Z community in Banten, namely using the internet healthily and wisely, making as many useful friends as possible, avoiding bullying, hoaxes, SARA which triggers crime, and using it to entrepreneurship and open employment opportunities.

Additional Information: Latar Belakang: Banyak orang berpikir, Gen Z ini adalah generasi millennial. Bukan. Mereka bukan millennial. Bahkan mereka sangat berbeda. Percaya atau tidak, millennial sudah dewasa. Saat ini Millenial sudah memiliki rumah dan menti karier. Saat ini ada generasi dengan jumlah lebih besar, lebih dari 72,8 juta. Dibandingkan millennial, Gen Z merupakan native digital murni. Mereka lahir dan tumbuh ditemani teknologi. Pola hidup dan perilaku mereka pun berbeda dengan milenial. Generasi Z merupakan generasi yang aktif dalam penggunaan internet, mereka menerima media sosial sebagai sesuatu yang taken for granted, dengan karakteristik generasi Z ini, maka generasi ini akan menjadi generasi yang memegang peranan penting dalam perkembangan negara Indonesia bahkan di dunia. Persoalannya generasi Z pengguna media sosial didominasi oleh remaja, dampak negatif dari penggunaan media sosial yang berlebihan oleh remaja dapat mengakibatkan perilaku kecanduan yang disebut sebagai social networking addiction. Perilaku ini disebabkan berbagai hal, dari mulai kurangnya pengawasan orang tua sampai pada minimnya literasi media digital pada remaja. Hasil: Para Gen Z punya alasan lain dalam bermedia social yakni FOMO atau fear of missing out atau fenomena khawatir tertinggal tren. Melalui media sosial, Gen Z mendapatkan informasi apapun yang diinginkan dengan melalui kolom pencarian atau tagar. Motif lain Gen Z bermedia sosial lainnya yakni menambah jaringan atau teman dan ingin menginspirasi banyak orang. Saran: Berdasarkan kesimpulan tersebut, peneliti memberikan saran yang dapat dijadikan sebagau masukan para Generasi Z khususnya komunitas Generasi Z di Banten yakni menggunakan internet secara sehat dan bijak, menjalin pertemanan seluas mungkin yang bermanfaat, menghindari bully, hoax, SARA pemicu kriminalitas, dan memanfaatkan untuk berwirausaha dan membuka lapangan pekerjaan.
