Abstract

The research aims to know The Effect of Seed Treatment and Planting Media Combination on Seed Viability and Vegetative Growth of Local Banten Cocoa Plants (Theobroma cacao L.). Which was conducted at the Screenhouse of the Agricultural Instrument Supervision and Standardization Agency in Ciruas District Serang Regency Banten Province. The design used in this research was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) consisted of two factors, namely Seed Treatment (P) and combination of planting media (M). The first factor with 3 levels, namely was control (P1), Pulp cleaning (P2) and peeling the skin (P3). The second factor consisting of 3 levels, namely a combination of soil + rice husk charcoal 1:1 (M1), a combination of soil + cocopeat 1:1 (M2) and a combination of soil + rice husk charcoal + cocopeat 1:1:1 (M3). Each treatment was repeated 3 times, so that 27 experimental units were obtained, each experimental unit consisting of 3 polybags, so that the number of cocoa seeds planted was 81 polybags. The result showed that seed treatment with skin peeling had an effect on the height of cocoa seedlings at 21 Days After Plant (DAP) (16.34 cm), and 28 DAP (21.48 cm), gave the best results on stem diameter at 14 DAP (3.58 mm), 21 DAP (3.92 mm), 28 DAP (4.08 mm), 35 DAP (4.22 mm), 42 DAP (4.30 mm) and 49 DAP (4.77 mm), gave the best effect on the number of leaves at 21 DAP (2.59 leaves) and 28 DAP (5.11 leaves) and gave the best effect on leaf surface area at 21 DAP (2.53 cm2). The combination of soil + cocopeat planting media gave the best effect on the stem diameter parameter at 35 DAP (4.05 mm) and gave the best effect on the leaf surface area at 35 DAP (40.87 cm2), 42 DAP (54.94 cm2) and 49 DAP (68.40 cm2). There was an interaction between seed treatment and planting media combination on the stem diameter parameter at 28 DAP and 35 DAP.

Additional Information: Kakao (Theobroma cacao L.) merupakan tanaman perkebunan yang memiliki potensi sangat tinggi dalam meningkatkan sumber pendapatan petani perkebunan. Budidaya tanaman kakao diperlukannya pembibitan yang baik dan benar, cara untuk memperbaiki proses pembibitan tanaman kakao dapat melakukan perlakuan pada benih kakao yaitu dengan pembersihan pulpa dan pengupasan kulit ari. Selain itu, dapat menggunakan kombinasi media tanam berbahan organik seperti penambahan arang sekam dan cocopeat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh perbedaan perlakuan benih dan kombinasi media tanam terhadap viabilitas benih dan pertumbuhan vegetatif tanaman kakao (Theobroma cacao L.) lokal Banten yang dilaksanakan di Screenhouse Badan Pengawasan dan Standarisasi Instrumen Pertanian (BPSIP) kecamatan Ciruas Kabupaten Serang Provinsi Banten. Rancangan yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) faktorial yaitu Perlakuan pada benih (P) dan Kombinasi Media Tanam (M). Faktor pertama memiliki 3 taraf, yaitu kontrol (P1), Pembersihan pulpa (P2) dan pengupasan kulit ari (P3). Begitupun dengan faktor kedua yang terdiri dari 3 taraf, yaitu kombinasi tanah+arang sekam perbandingan 1:1 (M1), kombinasi tanah+cocopeat perbandingan 1:1 (M2) dan kombinasi tanah+arang sekam+cocopeat perbandingan 1:1:1 (M3). Setiap perlakuan diulang sebanyak 3 kali, sehingga diperoleh 27 satuan percobaan, setiap satuan percobaan terdiri dari 3 polybag, sehingga jumlah benih kakao yang ditanam sebanyak 81 polybag. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan benih dengan pengupasan kulit ari memberikan pengaruh pada tinggi tanaman bibit kakao 21 Hari Setelah Tanam (HST) (16,34 cm), dan 28 HST (21,48 cm), memberikan hasil terbaik pada diameter batang 14 HST (3,58 mm), 21 HST (3,92 mm), 28 HST (4,08 mm), 35 HST (4,22 mm), 42 HST (4,30 mm) dan 49 HST (4,77 mm), memberikan pengaruh terbaik pada jumlah daun 21 HST (2,59 helai) dan 28 HST (5,11 helai) dan memberikan pengaruh terbaik pada luas permukaan daun 21 HST (2,53 cm2). Kombinasi media tanam tanah+cocopeat memberikan pengaruh terbaik pada parameter diameter batang 35 HST (4,05 mm) dan memberikan pengaruh terbaik pada luas permukaan daun 35 HST (40,87 cm2), 42 HST (54,94 cm2) dan 49 HST (68,40 cm2). Terdapat interaksi antara perlakuan benih dan kombinasi media tanam pada parameter diameter batang ketika berumur 28 HST dan 35 HST.
