Abstract
Employment problems are characterized by rapid growth of the labor force but stagnant employment opportunities. This condition triggers a high unemployment rate and has the potential to have a negative impact on human resources, the economy, and society. This study aims to determine the effect of minimum wage on labor absorption by using panel data model which is a combination of cross-section data with time series data during the period 2015-2023 in 34 provinces in Indonesia. The research data is secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). The hypothesis in this study is that it is suspected that the minimum wage, economic growth, number of industries, investment and average years of schooling (independent variables) have a positive effect on employment (dependent variable). Hypothesis testing using dynamic panel Generalized Method of Moment (GMM). The results of this study show that the variables of wages and economic growth have a positive influence on the absorption of manufacturing sector labor in Indonesia. And the variables of the number of industries, investment, and average years of schooling have a negative influence on the absorption of manufacturing sector labor in Indonesia.
