Abstract
This study is aimed to find out the rhetorical moves in discussion section of an undergraduate thesis and the students difficulties and challenges while developing the discussion section. The researcher use qualitative research method with content analysis design. Data was obtained from the thesis of the student research discussion section at the English Department located in Serang city. The data was selected based on the best criteria at the best score. In collecting data, researcher used documentation and interview techniques. The subject for this study was 5 students as the owner of the thesis discussion section. The researcher utilize data condensation, data display, and conclusions drawn to analyze data based on Miles, Huberman, & Saldana (2014). Data were analyzed to identify the rhetorical moves in discussion section based on theory framework Yang & Allison (2003), confirm that, students present their findings in the discussion by write down the background information of the purpose of their research, write down their findings, and write down the summarize of the finding discussion. However, one of the students present the discussion section by first explaining the findings.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gerakan retorika dalam bagian diskusi tesis sarjana dan kesulitan serta tantangan mahasiswa saat mengembangkan bagian diskusi. Peneliti menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan desain analisis konten. Data diperoleh dari tesis bagian diskusi penelitian mahasiswa di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris yang berlokasi di kota Serang. Data dipilih berdasarkan kriteria terbaik dengan skor terbaik. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan teknik dokumentasi dan wawancara. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 5 mahasiswa sebagai pemilik bagian diskusi tesis. Peneliti memanfaatkan kondensasi data, tampilan data, dan kesimpulan yang ditarik untuk menganalisis data berdasarkan Miles, Huberman, & Saldana (2014). Data dianalisis untuk mengidentifikasi gerakan retorika dalam bagian diskusi berdasarkan kerangka teori Yang & Allison (2003), mengonfirmasi bahwa, mahasiswa menyajikan temuan mereka dalam diskusi dengan menuliskan informasi latar belakang tujuan penelitian mereka, menuliskan temuan mereka, dan menuliskan ringkasan temuan diskusi. Namun, salah satu mahasiswa menyajikan bagian diskusi dengan terlebih dahulu menjelaskan temuannya. | |||||||||
