Abstract

Critical thinking skills are essential in 21st-century education. However, students at SMP Negeri 2 Rangkasbitung still struggle to critically analyze descriptive texts. This issue is caused by conventional teaching methods that are less interactive, the suboptimal use of gadgets in learning, and the limited variety of engaging and innovative learning media. This study aims to develop and examine the effectiveness of Canva-based interactive multimedia in enhancing students' critical thinking skills, including analyzing the development stages, feasibility, effectiveness, student responses, and learning outcomes after its implementation. This research employs the ADDIE development model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The study sample consists of 30 seventh-grade students from SMP Negeri 2 Rangkasbitung. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, expert validation questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test assessments. Data analysis applies a qualitative approach to explore expert, teacher, and student feedback and a quantitative approach to measure multimedia effectiveness based on questionnaire and test results. The findings indicate that Canva-based interactive multimedia is effective in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. The average student score increased from 53.86 in the pre-test to 78.4 in the post-test, with the success rate rising from 54% (fair category) to 78% (good category). The N-Gain Score calculation yielded an average of 0.57 (moderate category), with some students achieving a high category (N-Gain = 1). Expert validation results demonstrated high feasibility, with material validation scoring 81.25% and media validation scoring 90.67%. Teacher and student responses were also highly positive, with 96.7% of teachers and 86.43% of students stating that Canva enhanced their understanding and engagement in learning. In conclusion, Canvabased interactive multimedia has proven to be an effective and innovative learning tool that increases student engagement and critical thinking skills in understanding descriptive texts. Therefore, Canva is recommended as an alternative learning medium for English instruction at the junior high school level.

Hal ini disebabkan oleh metode pembelajaran konvensional yang kurang interaktif, pemanfaatan gadget yang belum optimal, serta keterbatasan media pembelajaran yang menarik dan inovatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan menguji efektivitas multimedia interaktif berbasis Canva dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa, termasuk menganalisis tahapan pengembangan, kelayakan, efektivitas, respons siswa, serta hasil belajar setelah penggunaannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengembangan model ADDIE yang mencakup lima tahap: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 30 siswa kelas VII F SMP Negeri 2 Rangkasbitung. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, angket validasi ahli, serta tes pre-test dan post-test. Analisis data menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif untuk menggali tanggapan ahli, guru, dan siswa, serta pendekatan kuantitatif untuk mengukur efektivitas multimedia berdasarkan hasil angket dan tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa multimedia interaktif berbasis Canva efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Skor rata-rata meningkat dari 53,86 pada pre-test menjadi 78,4 pada post-test, dengan persentase keberhasilan naik dari 54% (kategori cukup baik) menjadi 78% (kategori baik). Perhitungan N-Gain Score mencapai rata-rata 0,57 (kategori sedang), dengan beberapa siswa mencapai kategori tinggi (N-Gain = 1). Validasi ahli materi dan media menunjukkan kelayakan sangat tinggi, masing-masing sebesar 81,25% dan 90,67%. Respons guru dan siswa juga sangat positif, dengan 96,7% guru dan 86,43% siswa menyatakan bahwa Canva membantu meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterlibatan mereka dalam pembelajaran. Kesimpulannya, multimedia interaktif berbasis Canva terbukti efektif sebagai media pembelajaran inovatif yang dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan dan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa dalam memahami teks deskriptif. Oleh karena itu, Canva direkomendasikan sebagai alternatif media pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di tingkat SMP.
