Abstract

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is one of the plants belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, widely favored by the public for its sweet taste and health benefits essential to the body. This research aimed to determine the effect of boron fertilizer on the number of seeds and seed quality in melon lines (Cucumis melo L.). The research was conducted at the experimental garden of PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari, Dramaga, Bogor Regency, West Java, from November 2023 to March 2024. The research used a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) consisting of six levels of boron concentration treatments: B0: 0 g/l (Control), B1: (0,5 g/l), B2: (1 g/l), B3: (1,5 g/l), B4: (2 g/l), and B5: (2,5 g/l). Each treatment was repeated four times, resulting in 24 experimental units. The results showed that the application of 0.5 g/l boron fertilizer tended to provide the best results for the parameters of the number of male and female flowers as well as seed weight per fruit.

Additional Information: Melon (Cucumis melo L.) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang termasuk dalam famili Cucurbitaceae, yang banyak digemari oleh masyarakat karena rasanya yang manis dan manfaat kesehatannya yang penting bagi tubuh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pupuk boron terhadap jumlah biji dan kualitas benih pada galur melon (Cucumis melo L.). Penelitian dilaksanakan di kebun percobaan PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari, Dramaga, Kabupaten Bogor, Jawa Barat, dari bulan November 2023 hingga Maret 2024. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non-faktorial yang terdiri dari enam taraf konsentrasi boron: B0: 0 g/l (Kontrol), B1: (0,5 g/l), B2: (1 g/l), B3: (1,5 g/l), B4: (2 g/l), dan B5: (2,5 g/l). Setiap perlakuan diulang sebanyak empat kali sehingga diperoleh 24 satuan percobaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian pupuk boron sebesar 0,5 g/l cenderung memberikan hasil terbaik pada parameter jumlah bunga jantan dan betina serta bobot benih per buah.
