Abstract
Films serves as a mass communication medium capable of recording and reflecting social realities through visual and audio narratives. As a cultural product, films not only mirror societal values and norms but also function as tools to influence public opinion and shape social discourse. This study explores the phenomenon of cancel culture as portrayed in the film Budi Pekerti by Wregas Bhanuteja, illustrating how cancel culture can impact individuals and society. The research aims to uncover the denotative, connotative, and mythical meanings within specific scenes in the film. The study employs a descriptive qualitative method using Roland Barthes semiotic analysis, encompassing three layers of analysis: denotation as literal meaning, connotation as symbolic associations, and myth as hidden ideology. Data were collected through scene observation, literature review, and documentation. The results show that, denotatively, cancel culture is represented through concrete actions such as the spread of viral videos, public condemnation, and social isolation of the main character, directly portraying social pressure. Connotatively, these scenes symbolize the injustice and social stigma that can destroy a person's reputation and life. On the mythological layer, the film reveals the ideology of social media as a tool of social control that reinforces society's moral hierarchy while highlighting contradictions in collective moral values

Additional Information: | Film adalah medium komunikasi massa yang mampu merekam dan merefleksikan realitas sosial melalui narasi visual dan audio. Sebagai produk budaya, film tidak hanya mencerminkan nilai-nilai dan norma-norma masyarakat, tetapi juga menjadi alat untuk memengaruhi opini publik serta membentuk diskursus sosial. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi fenomena cancel culture yang digambarkan dalam film Budi Pekerti karya Wregas Bhanuteja, yang menggambarkan bagaimana cancel culture dapat memengaruhi individu dan masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna denotasi, konotasi, dan mitos dalam adegan-adegan tertentu dalam film. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan analisis semiotika Roland Barthes, yang mencakup tiga lapisan analisis: denotasi sebagai makna literal, konotasi sebagai asosiasi simbolik, dan mitos sebagai ideologi tersembunyi. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi adegan, studi pustaka, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara denotatif, cancel culture direpresentasikan melalui tindakan konkret seperti penyebaran video viral, kecaman publik, dan isolasi sosial terhadap karakter utama, yang menggambarkan tekanan sosial secara langsung. Secara konotatif, adegan-adegan tersebut mengandung asosiasi simbolik tentang ketidakadilan dan stigma sosial yang dapat menghancurkan reputasi dan kehidupan seseorang. Pada lapisan mitos, film ini mengungkapkan ideologi tentang peran media sosial sebagai alat kontrol sosial yang memperkuat hierarki moral masyarakat, sekaligus menyoroti kontradiksi dalam nilai-nilai moralitas kolektif. | ||||||
