Abstract
This study discusses content production with data-driven approach in online media (study on BBC News online media). The evolution of digital technology has changed the media landscape significantly. The presence of big data has empowered journalists to conduct in-depth and comprehensive coverage. This study aims to determine content production with data-driven approach, especially on BBC News as one of the data-based media. This study uses media ecology theory, qualitative descriptive approach, with in-depth interview data collection techniques, observation, and documentation study. The informants of this study are the BBC News East Asia Visual and Data Journalism team. The results of the study show that the process of creating data journalism at BBC News goes through general stages starting from data collection (compile) obtained through primary data sources, secondary data, and tertiary data, the data cleaning process (clean) using spreadsheets and the R and Python programming languages, the context adjustment process (context) determining the news perspective based on original research and driven by the news approach, the data merging process (combine) combining two or more data, and the data presentation process (communicate) paying attention to the use of visualization based on short-term and long-term projects. BBC News shows flexibility in implementing these stages, adjusting the characteristics of the data.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini membahas mengenai produksi konten dengan pendekatan data-driven di media online (studi pada media online BBC News). Evolusi teknologi digital telah mengubah lanskap media secara signifikan. Kehadiran big data telah memberdayakan jurnalis untuk melakukan liputan mendalam dan komprehensif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui produksi konten dengan pendekatan data-driven, terutama pada BBC News sebagai salah satu media berbasis data. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori ekologi media, pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data wawancara mendalam, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Informan penelitian ini yakni tim East Asia Visual and Data Journalism BBC News. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan proses pembuatan jurnalisme data dalam BBC News melalui tahapan yang umum dimulai dari pengumpulan data (compile) yang didapatkan melalui sumber data primer, data sekunder, dan tersier, proses pembersihan data (clean) menggunakan spreadsheet dan bahasa pemrograman R dan Phyton, proses penyesuaian konteks (context) menentukan sudut pandang cerita berdasarkan pendekatan original research dan driven by news, proses penggabungan data (combine) menggabungkan dua data atau lebih, dan proses penyajian data (communicate) memperhatikan penggunaan visualisasi berdasarkan short-term project dan long-term project. BBC News menunjukkan fleksibilitas dalam menerapkan tahapan-tahapan tersebut, menyesuaikan karakteristik data. | |||||||||
