Abstract
Air pollution from motor vehicle emissions is a major challenge in maintaining environmental quality and public health. This study aims to design, manufacture, and evaluate a motor vehicle pollutant filtering device using a combination of glasswool and air filter materials. Testing was carried out on a 2009 Vega R motorcycle engine fueled by Pertalite, with emission analysis using a gas analyzer. The filter was tested in various configurations (glasswool 10 g, 20 g, 30 g; air filter 1, 2, 3 layers; and a combination of both) for 5 minutes each experiment. The test results showed that this device is effective in reducing pollutant emissions. The combination of 10 grams of glasswool and one layer of air filter gave the best performance, with a reduction of carbon monoxide (CO) up to 88.5%, hydrocarbons (HC) up to 87.8%, and carbon dioxide (CO2) up to 86.3% compared to conditions without a filter. This device is also able to maintain the air flow rate at a level that supports combustion efficiency. Factors such as glasswool weight, number of air filter layers, and material combination have a significant effect on the performance of the device. The lightweight configuration provides an optimal balance between emission reduction and smooth air flow rate. This study confirms the importance of proper filter configuration to improve combustion efficiency and reduce pollutant emissions. These findings contribute to the development of more environmentally friendly vehicle technologies and support global efforts to maintain air quality.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang, membuat, dan mengevaluasi alat penyaring polutan kendaraan bermotor menggunakan kombinasi material glasswool dan filter udara. Pengujian dilakukan pada mesin motor Vega R tahun 2009 berbahan bakar Pertalite, dengan analisis emisi menggunakan gas analyzer. Filter diuji dalam berbagai konfigurasi (glasswool 10 g, 20 g, 30 g; filter udara 1, 2, 3 layer; serta kombinasi keduanya) selama 5 menit setiap percobaan. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa alat ini efektif dalam mengurangi emisi polutan. Kombinasi glasswool 10 gram dan satu layer filter udara memberikan performa terbaik, dengan pengurangan karbon monoksida (CO) hingga 88,5%, hidrokarbon (HC) hingga 87,8%, dan karbon dioksida (CO2) hingga 86,3% dibandingkan kondisi tanpa filter. Alat ini juga mampu mempertahankan laju aliran udara pada tingkat yang mendukung efisiensi pembakaran. Faktor-faktor seperti berat glasswool, jumlah layer filter udara, dan kombinasi material berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kinerja alat. Konfigurasi ringan memberikan keseimbangan optimal antara pengurangan emisi dan kelancaran laju aliran udara. Penelitian ini menegaskan pentingnya konfigurasi filter yang tepat untuk meningkatkan efisiensi pembakaran dan mengurangi emisi polutan.
