Abstract
TThe purpose of this study was to describe and analyze students' understanding and folding back according to Pirie Kieren's theory on the concept of arithmetic series. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of this study were 12 students out of 30 students of class X B MAN 1 Kota Cilegon with high, medium and low mathematical understanding abilities. The data collection technique in this study used test and interview instruments. The data analysis technique used according to Miles and Huberman The data validity technique used is technical triangulation, namely comparing the results of the mathematical understanding test with interviews. The results of the study showed that there were 7 students (27%) who were included in the category of students with high mathematical understanding abilities; 12 students (46%) are included in the category of students with moderate mathematical understanding abilities, and 7 students (27%) are included in the category of students with low mathematical understanding abilities. Students with high mathematical understanding abilities have good understanding and are able to fulfill all layers of understanding according to Pirie Kieren's theory, namely primitive knowing, image making, image having, property noticing, formalising, observing, structuring, and inventising. Students with high mathematical understanding abilities experience two forms of folding back, namely working on deeper layers and collecting deeper layers because they want to check their answers until they produce the right answer. Students with moderate mathematical understanding abilities have quite good understanding and are able to fulfill seven layers of understanding according to Pirie Kieren's theory, namely primitive knowing, image making, image having, property noticing, formalising, and observing. and structuring. Students with moderate mathematical comprehension skills experience two forms of folding back, namely working on deeper layers and collecting deeper layers because they want to check their answers until they produce the right answer. Students with low mathematical comprehension skills have poor understanding and only fulfill one to three layers of understanding according to Pirie Kieren's theory, namely primitive knowing, image making, and image having. Students with low mathematical comprehension skills only experience one form of folding back, namely working on deeper layers.

Additional Information: | Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis pemahaman dan folding back siswa menurut teori Pirie Kieren pada konsep deret aritmetika. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan menurut Miles dan Huberman Teknik keabsahan data yang digunakan adalah triangulasi teknik, yakni membandingkan antara hasil tes pemahaman matematis dengan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 7 siswa (27%) yang termasuk ke dalam kategori siswa berkemampuan pemahaman matematis tinggi; 12 siswa (46%) yang termasuk ke dalam kategori siswa berkemampuan pemahaman matematis sedang, dan 7 siswa (27%) yang termasuk ke dalam kategori siswa berkemampuan pemahaman matematis rendah. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematis tinggi memiliki pemahaman yang baik dan mampu memenuhi semua lapisan pemahaman menurut teori Pirie Kieren yaitu primitive knowing, image making, image having, property noticing, formalising, observing, structuring, dan inventising. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematis tinggi mengalami dua bentuk folding back yaitu bekerja pada lapisan lebih dalam dan mengumpulkan lapisan lebih dalam kaerna ingin memeriksa jawabannya hingga menghasilkan jawaban yang tepat. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematis sedang memiliki pemahaman yang cukup baik dan mampu memenuhi tujuh lapisan pemahaman menurut teori Pirie Kieren.yaitu primitive knowing, image making, image having, property noticing, formalising, dan observing. dan structuring. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematis sedang mengalami dua bentuk folding back yaitu bekerja pada lapisan lebih dalam dan mengumpulkan lapisan lebih dalam kaerna ingin memeriksa jawabannya hingga menghasilkan jawaban yang tepat.Siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematis rendah memiliki pemahaman yang kurang baik dan hanya memenuhi satu sampai tiga lapisan pemahaman menurut teori Pirie Kieren yaitu primitive knowing, image making, dan image having. Siswa dengan kemampuan pemahaman matematis rendah hanya mengalami satu bentuk folding back yaitu bekerja pada lapisan lebih dalam. | |||||||||
