Abstract

English language learning is widely taught in Indonesia; however, students often struggle to use it as a communication tool due to various learning factors. A strong vocabulary mastery is essential for understanding and expressing language, and animation films can assist it by providing engaging and immersive contexts. Accordingly, this research examines the effectiveness of animation film media in improving English vocabulary mastery. In its implementation, this research employs a quantitative experimental approach, with class X-9 as the control class and class X-7 as the experimental class at SMA Negeri I Cilegon. For sampling, the researcher used 30 questions that had been validated, with the research instrument divided into a pre-test before treatment and a post-test after treatment. The results show a significant improvement after treatment, with an average score of 79, up from an initial average of 72. This research demonstrates that using animation film media if effecive on students’ English vocabulary mastery in the tenth grade. Therefore, the researcher suggests that animation films be used as an alternative learning medium.

Additional Information: Pembelajaran bahasa Inggris diajarkan secara luas di Indonesia; namun, siswa sering kali kesulitan menggunakannya sebagai alat komunikasi karena berbagai faktor pembelajaran. Penguasaan kosakata yang kuat sangat penting untuk memahami dan mengekspresikan bahasa, dan film animasi dapat membantu dengan menyediakan konteks yang menarik dan mendalam. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mengkaji efektivitas media film animasi dalam meningkatkan penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris. Dalam implementasinya, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan eksperimen kuantitatif, dengan kelas X-9 sebagai kelas kontrol dan kelas X-7 sebagai kelas eksperimen di SMA Negeri I Cilegon. Untuk pengambilan sampel, peneliti menggunakan 30 pertanyaan yang telah divalidasi, dengan instrumen penelitian dibagi menjadi tes awal sebelum perlakuan dan tes akhir setelah perlakuan. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan setelah perlakuan, dengan skor rata-rata 79, naik dari rata-rata awal 72. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media film animasi efektif terhadap penguasaan kosakata bahasa Inggris siswa di kelas sepuluh. Oleh karena itu, peneliti menyarankan agar film animasi digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran alternatif.
