Abstract
Mathematics learning is often perceived as a difficult thing by students, which has an impact on students low mathematical critical thinking skills. One of the approaches that is believed to be able to improve these abilities is the STAD (Student Teams Achievement Divisions) type cooperative learning model. This study aims to determine the influence of the STAD learning model on students mathematical critical thinking skills. This type of research is a quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design involving two classes, namely an experimental class that applies the STAD learning model and a control class that applies expository learning. This research was carried out at SMP Negeri 10 Serang City with a population of 10 class VIII students and the sample in this study was two classes taken using a simple random sampling technique. The research instrument is in the form of a mathematical critical thinking ability test. Before the instrument is used, its validity and reliability tests are first carried out. The data collection method in this study uses a test method with test questions in the form of 5 essay questions. Data analysis was carried out by statistical test using t-test. Based on the results of the research and discussion, the value of, tcalculate > ttable was obtained or 4.410 > 1.998, then it can be concluded thatthe STAD-type cooperative learning model has a positive effect on mathematical critical thinking skills.
