Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the case based learning (CBL) model on students' problem solving skills on the concept of environmental pollution. This research is a quasi-experimental research using a pretest posttest control group design. Case based learning model as the independent variable and students' problem solving skills as the dependent variable. This research was carried out from June to October 2024 at SMA Negeri 8 Serang City with a population of all class X students in the odd semester of the 2023/2024 academic year and the sample consisted of two classes namely class X.5 as a control class using the discovery learning (DL) model and class X.7 as an experimental class using the case based learning (CBL) model. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling technique. The research instrument used was a 10-item description test and a non-test in the form of an observation sheet on the implementation of learning activities. The results of data collection using tests obtained an average posttest score in the experimental class of 43.80, including medium criteria, and the control class of 39.21, including low criteria. The highest value for students' problem solving skills lies in indicator 1, while the lowest value lies in indicator 3. The data analysis technique for hypothesis testing uses the t test with the help of SPSS 25 software and obtains a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the case based learning (CBL) model has an effect on students' problem-solving skills in the concept of environmental pollution, so it can be used as a consideration in conducting other relevant research related to the case based learning (CBL) model.

Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Juni hingga Oktober 2024 di SMA Negeri 8 Kota Serang dengan populasi seluruh siswa kelas X semester ganjil tahun ajaran 2023/2024 dan sampel terdiri dari dua kelas, yaitu kelas X.5 sebagai kelas kontrol dengan menggunakan model discovery learning (DL) dan kelas X.7 sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan menggunakan model case based learning (CBL). Pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa tes uraian sebanyak 10 butir soal dan nontes berupa lembar observasi keterlaksanaan kegiatan pembelajaran. Hasil pengumpulan data menggunakan tes memperoleh nilai rata-rata posttest pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 43,80 termasuk kriteria sedang dan kelas kontrol sebesar 39,21 termasuk kriteria rendah. Nilai tertinggi keterampilan pemecahan masalah siswa terletak pada indikator 1, sedangkan nilai terendah terletak pada indikator 3. Teknik analisis data untuk uji hipotesis menggunakan uji t dengan bantuan perangkat lunak SPSS 25 dan memperoleh nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa model case based learning (CBL) berpengaruh terhadap keterampilan pemecahan masalah siswa pada konsep pencemaran lingkungan, sehingga bisa digunakan sebagai bahan pertimbangan dalam melakukan penelitian relevan lainnya yang berkaitan dengan model case based learning (CBL).
