Abstract

This study aims to investigate (1) the implementation of apperception activities in learning English for 9th-grade students at SMPN 12 Cilegon, (2) the apperception activities that students prefer to do in speaking skills, and (3) the benefits can be obtained from a series of apperception activities. The researcher used qualitative research with a case study. The sample of this research was class 9D of SMPN 12 Cilegon with 33 participants. The researcher used purposive sampling. The researcher used observation, interview, and questionnaire for this study as data collection techniques. The research results show that the teacher always applies the four stages of apperception activities during the teaching-learning process. Apperception activities as part of the learning process can help students' speaking skills. Ice breaking is one of the apperception activities that students like most for their speaking skills, followed by brain gym, fun story, and music were the least apperception activities preferred by the students. It can be concluded that the series of apperception activities can foster students' learning motivation and provide an initial overview for students in learning new material. Therefore, it is hoped that teachers can develop more varied activities.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) pelaksanaan kegiatan apersepsi pada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris untuk siswa kelas 9 SMPN 12 Cilegon, (2) apersepsi kegiatan yang disukai siswa dalam keterampilan berbicara, dan (3) manfaat yang dapat diperoleh diperoleh dari serangkaian kegiatan apersepsi. Peneliti menggunakan kualitatif penelitian dengan studi kasus. Sampel penelitian ini adalah kelas 9D SMPN 12 Cilegon dengan 33 peserta. Peneliti menggunakan purposive sampling. Penelitian ini menggunakan observasi, wawancara, dan kuesioner sebagai pengumpulan data teknik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru selalu menerapkan keempat tahapan tersebut kegiatan apersepsi selama proses belajar mengajar. Kegiatan apersepsi sebagai bagian dari proses pembelajaran dapat membantu keterampilan berbicara siswa. Pemecah kebekuan adalah salah satunya kegiatan apersepsi yang paling disukai siswa karena keterampilan berbicaranya, diikuti oleh senam otak, cerita seru, dan musik merupakan aktivitas apersepsi yang paling sedikit disukai oleh mereka siswa. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa rangkaian kegiatan apersepsi dapat menumbuhkan motivasi belajar siswa dan memberikan gambaran awal bagi siswa dalam belajar materi baru. Oleh karena itu, diharapkan guru dapat mengembangkan kegiatan yang lebih bervariasi.
