Abstract
Ghost gear is fishing gear already lost, discarded, or abandoned in seawater. Passive-operated fishing gear such as gillnets has a high potential for loss. The Lontar Village is one of the centers of the bottom gillnet fishery of Serang Regency. However, there is limited data on ghost gear in Lontar Village. The study aims to identify the factors causing lost gear and develop recommendations for mitigation measures. This research was conducted in Lontar Village from March to April through direct observation and interviews with 60 fisheries. The causes of the gear loss were analyzed descriptively. The Lontar Village fishermen use bottom gillnets with a mesh size of two inches and a length of 45 m per piece. Fishing operations are carried out with a one-day trip. Factors causing the loss of bottom gillnet are snagging on obstructions (43%), strong currents (32%), conflicts with fishermen (18%), and discarding (7%). The estimated amount of ghost gear encountered by fishermen over the past year is 20,592 pieces, with a total weight of 28,829 kg. The total financial loss experienced by the fishermen due to this is Rp 3,088,800,000 for the year. The efforts to reduce ghost gear are avoiding the fishing grounds that often get stuck, using modern technology in fishing activities, and communicating and cooperating among fishermen to minimize the occurrence of ghost gear.

| Additional Information: | Ghost gear merupakan alat tangkap yang hilang, dibuang atau terbengkalai pada suatu perairan. Alat tangkap yang dioperasikan secara pasif seperti jaring insang memiliki potensi kehilangan yang besar. Salah satu alat tangkap yang banyak digunakan oleh nelayan di Desa Lontar adalah gillnet atau biasa disebut jaring rampus. Sampai saat ini belum ada data dan informasi ghost gear di Desa Lontar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk Mengidentifikasi faktor penyebab hilangnya alat tangkap jaring rampus, mengestimasi jumlah jaring rampus yang terbengkalai, hilang, dan dibuang dan menyusun rekomendasi langkah mitigasi dan penanggulangan untuk mengurangi jumlah jaring rampus yang hilang. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Desa Lontar pada bulan Maret hingga April melalui observasi langsung dan wawancara dengan 60 nelayan. Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif. Faktor penyebab hilangnya jaring rampus di perairan Desa Lontar adalah tersangkut pada penghalang (43%), arus yang kuat (32%), konflik dengan nelayan (18%) dan dibuang (7%). Estimasi jumlah jaring rampus yang hilang selama satu tahun sebanyak 20.592 piece dengan berat 28.829 kg. Potensi kerugian akibat kehilangan jaring rampus tersebut sebesar Rp 3.088.800.000. Upaya yang direkomendasikan untuk mengurangi ghost gear yaitu sosialisasi ghost gear, menghindari lokasi yang sering tersangkut, penggunaan teknologi modern dalam kegiatan penangkapan, melakukan komunikasi dan saling kerja sama antar nelayan alat tangkap agar meminimalisir terjadinya ghost gear. | |||||||||
