Abstract
This study aims to explore the representation of masculinity in the novel Hujan by Tere Liye, focusing on the characters Lail and Esok. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research collects data through close reading, noting relevant sections, and identifying themes related to masculinity. The data analysis technique employed is content analysis, utilizing coding to mark and categorize elements within the text. The findings indicate that masculine aspects, such as independence, courage, and decision-making ability, are represented in both maincharacters. Although Lail is a female character, she exhibits strong masculine traits, while Esok displays emotional sensitivity. This study contributes to the understanding of the social construction of masculinity in literature, highlighting that masculine traits can be possessed by individuals of both genders.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran maskulinitas dalam novel Hujan karya Tere Liye, dengan fokus pada karakter Lail dan Esok. Menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif, penelitian ini mengumpulkan data melalui pembacaan mendalam, pencatatan bagian relevan, dan identifikasi tema terkait maskulinitas. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah analisis isi, dengan menggunakan koding untuk menandai dan mengelompokkan elemen-elemen dalam teks. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa aspek maskulin, seperti kemandirian, keberanian, dan kemampuan mengambil keputusan, diwakili dalam kedua tokoh utama. Meskipun Lail adalah seorang perempuan, ia menunjukkan sifat-sifat maskulin yang kuat, sementara Esok menunjukkan kepekaan emosional. Penelitian ini menunjukkan pemahaman tentang konstruksi sosial maskulinitas dalam sastra, bahwa sifat-sifat maskulin dapat dimiliki oleh individu dari kedua jenis kelamin. | |||||||||
