Abstract
The development of the era and social changes have also brought changes in the use of language in communication, both directly and indirectly on social media. Using the reception theory from Stuart Hall, this study aims to find out how generation z from the three positions of meaning, namely dominant hegemony, negotiation, and opposition, interprets the use of swear words in the content of the PODHUB podcast with the title "Anya Geraldine, why do guys have to shower like..." on YouTube. Through the phenomenological method with a qualitative approach, this study identifies that in the hegemony position the use of swear words is fully accepted as natural and in accordance with the context of entertaining conversations. On the other hand, the negotiation position states that swear words are acceptable but within certain limits because they require the discretion of the listener, while in the opposition position the use of swear words is rejected because it is considered incompatible with the values of politeness in Indonesian culture. This study concludes that the audience's interpretation of something in the media will be different based on their personal experience, social scope, and viewing preferences.

Additional Information: | Perkembangan jaman dan perubahan sosial turut membawa perubahan pada penggunaan bahasa dalam berkomunikasi baik itu secara langsung maupun tidak langsung di media sosial. Dengan menggunakan teori resepsi dari Stuart Hall, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana Generasi Z dari tiga posisi pemaknaan, yaitu hegemoni dominan, negosiasi, dan oposisi memaknai penggunaan kata umpatan pada konten podcast PODHUB dengan judul “Anya Geraldine, eh kenapa cowo kalau mandi harus…” yang di unggah di youtube. Melalui metode fenomenologi dengan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi bahwa pada posisi hegemoni penggunaan kata umpatan diterima secara penuh sebagai hal yang wajar dan sesuai dengan konteks percakapan yang menghibur. Di sisi lain, posisi negosiasi menyatakan bahwa kata umpatan dapat diterima namun dalam batasan tertentu karena memerlukan kebijaksanaan pendengar, sementara pada posisi oposisi penggunaan kata umpatan ditolak karena dianggap tidak sesuai dengan nilai-nilai kesopanan dalam budaya Indonesia. Penelitian ini menghasilkan kesimpulan bahwa pemaknaan khalayak mengenai sesuatu di media akan berbeda berdasarkan pengalaman pribadi, lingkup sosial, dan preferensi tontonan masing masing. | ||||||
