Abstract
This study aims to describe the effect of the application of the reading aloud method on reading interest and reading skills in grade VII students of SMPN 1 Kramatwatu. This study used pre-experimental method, quantitative approach with preangket-postangket design and pretest-posttest one group design. Data collection techniques use reading interest questionnaires in the form of prequestionnaires and postquestionnaires and reading skills tests in the form of pretests and posttests. The results showed an increase in reading interest from preangket 80,323 to postangket 81,548. Then, an increase in reading skill scores from pretest 56 to posttest 85 activities. There was a significant effect of the reading aloud method on reading interest after treatment with a result of 0.707. Then, there was a significant effect of the reading aloud method on students' reading skills after treatment with a result of 0.622. Thus it can be concluded that the reading aloud method affects the reading interest and reading skills of grade VII students of SMPN 1 Kramatwatu.

Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket minat membaca berupa preangket dan postangket serta tes keterampilan membaca berupa pretest dan posttest. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan minat membaca dari kegiatan preangket 80,323 hingga postangket 81,548. Kemudian, peningkatan nilai keterampilan membaca dari kegiatan pretest 56 hingga posttest 85. Terdapat pengaruh signifikan metode reading aloud terhadap minat membaca sesudah perlakuan dengan hasil 0,707. Kemudian, terdapat pengaruh signifikan metode reading aloud terhadap keterampilan membaca siswa sesudah perlakuan dengan hasil 0,622. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode reading aloud mempengaruhi minat membaca dan keterampilan membaca siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Kramatwatu. | |||||||||
