Abstract
This study aims to identify the aspects of motivation and examine the influence of this motivation on the role of Sri Ningsih in the novel Tentang Kamu by Tere Liye, based on Abraham Maslow's Basic Human Needs Theory. The method used in this research is a qualitative method. The data source consists of both dialogue and narrative forms that contain motivational aspects in Tere Liye's novel Tentang Kamu, published in 2018. Data collection techniques were conducted through literature review, observation, and note-taking. The data analysis process employed the referential method, and data validity was ensured using theory triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the character Sri Ningsih exhibits all of Maslow's basic needs, including physiological needs (9 instances), safety (4 instances), social needs (love and affection, 12 instances), esteem (13 instances), and self-actualization (24 instances), from a total of 62 instances of Sri Ningsih's basic needs. Safety needs are the least represented, with a percentage of 6%, while self-actualization is the most prevalent, with a percentage of 39%.
