Abstract
Writing skills do not get serious attention, often considered more difficult than other language skills, one of which is writing descriptive text. As a result, many students are less interested in writing descriptive text and are unable to write descriptive text well. The purpose of this study is to describe the effect of relay writing methods, outdoor learning methods, and the differences between relay writing methods and outdoor learning methods on descriptive text writing skills of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang. This study uses an experimental method with a quantitative approach and design selection in the form of a pretest- posttest control group design. The sampling technique is simple random sampling. The data collection technique from the results of the descriptive text writing test in the form of a pretest and posttest for the experimental and control classes with assessment instruments, namely Content, Organization, grammar, style, and mechanics. The results show the influence of the relay writing method with an average pretest score of 62.06 and a posttest of 79.6. Then, the influence of the outdoor learning method with an average pretest score of 58.7 and a posttest of 68.83. Finally, the results of the posttest difference show that the relay writing method is superior with a difference of 10.77 points. It is concluded that the relay writing method is superior to the outdoor learning method to be applied in improving students' descriptive text writing skills.

Additional Information: | Keterampilan menulis kurang mendapatkan perhatian yang serius, sering kali dianggap lebih sulit dibandingkan keterampilan berbahasa yang lain, salah satunya menulis teks deskripsi. Akibat dari hal tersebut banyak siswa kurang berminat menulis teks deskripsi dan tidak mampu menulis teks deskripsi dengan baik. Adapun, tujuan penelitian ini yakni mendeskripsikan pengaruh metode estafet writing, metode outdoor learning, dan perbedaan metode estafet writing dan metode outdoor learning terhadap keterampilan menulis teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitaif dan pemilihan desain berupa pretest- posttest control group design. Teknik pengambilan sampel dengan simple random sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data dari hasil tes menulis teks deskripsi berupa pretest dan posttest kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dengan instrumen penilaian yaitu Isi, Organisasi, tata bahasa, gaya, dan mekanik. Hasil menunjukkan pengaruh metode estafet writing dengan rata-rata nilai pretest sebesar 62,06 dan posttest sebesar 79,6. Kemudian, pengaruh metode outdoor learning dengan rata- rata nilai pretest sebesar 58,7 dan posttest sebesar 68,83. Terakhir, hasil perbedaan posttest menunjukkan metode estafet writing lebih unggul dengan selisih sebesar 10,77 poin. Disimpulkan bahwa metode estafet writing lebih unggul dibandingkan dengan metode outdoor learning untuk diterapkan dalam meningkatkan keterampilan menulis teks deskripsi siswa. | |||||||||
