Abstract

The manufacturing industry continues to grow along with advances in science and technology, which is reflected in an increase in the amount of production. Increased production must be followed by special attention to improving the quality of production results. PT Indonesia Steel Tube Works is one of the companies that produces steel pipes in Indonesia. In the company there is a phenomenon of changing the dimensions of the diameter of the steel pipe after the cutting process. This phenomenon is related to the precision needed so that the pipe can be perfectly connected with other pipes or components. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in rotational speed and the number of saw teeth on changes in the diameter dimensions of low carbon steel pipes in the cutting process. The research method used variations in rotational speed (4 L/min, 6 L/min, and 8 L/min) and the number of saw teeth (180 and 220). The pipe diameter was measured before and after the cutting process to determine the difference in each parameter of speed and number of saw teeth. The results show that the rotating speed and the number of saw teeth affect the dimensional changes of low carbon steel pipe diameter. The variation of rotating speed affects the compression stress during the cutting process. The increase in rotational speed results in a decrease in compression stress, so the change in the diameter of the low carbon steel pipe decreases as the rotational speed increases The number of saw teeth can affect the change in the diameter of the low carbon steel pipe. This is related to the chip load produced. The more the number of saw teeth used the smaller the chip load that works so that the load that works during the cutting process is reduced.
