Abstract

The study investigated the effectiveness of using crossword puzzle games on the bookwidget platform to improve students' reading comprehension in analytical exposition texts. The researcher employed a quantitative approach with a quasi experimental design, gathering data through pre-tests and post-tests involving 97 students as population, with XI Advance Class 2 (experimental) and XI Advance Class 3 (control) as sample. The result of the data analysis showed that there was a difference of the average pre-test scores between experimental class (55) and control class (48.2). Meanwhile, the average of post-test scores, experimental class (80.5) and control class (68.8). This study used an Independent Sample T-Test in IBM SPSS 26 version and found a significant difference, with a Sig. 2-tailed value is 0.000 < 0.050. Resulted, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, while the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Therefore, there is an effect on students’ reading comprehension at SMAN 6 Kota Serang after using crossword puzzle games in bookwidget platform.

Additional Information: Penelitian ini menyelidiki efektivitas penggunaan permainan teka-teki silang pada platform bookwidget untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa dalam teks eksposisi analitis. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain kuasi eksperimen, mengumpulkan data melalui pre-test dan post-test yang melibatkan 97 siswa sebagai populasi, dengan kelas XI Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut 2 (eksperimen) dan XI Bahasa Inggris Tingkat Lanjut 3 (kontrol) sebagai sampel. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan rata-rata nilai pre-test antara kelas eksperimen (55) dan kelas kontrol (48,2). Sementara itu, rata-rata nilai post-test, kelas eksperimen (80,5) dan kelas kontrol (68,8). Penelitian ini menggunakan uji Independent Sample T-Test pada IBM SPSS versi 26 dan menemukan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan, dengan nilai Sig. 2-tailed sebesar 0,000 < 0,050. Hasilnya, hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima, sedangkan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak. Oleh karena itu, terdapat pengaruh terhadap pemahaman membaca siswa di SMAN 6 Kota Serang setelah menggunakan permainan teka-teki silang dalam platform bookwidget.
