Abstract
This research discusses the meaning of students regarding environmental issues in online news. In reception, the audience is positioned as a party that has the power to create meaning freely to the media messages consumed. This research aims to find out the meaning of students about environmental issues in online news. This research uses a qualitative method supported by Carolyn Michelle's Reception Analysis Theory and data collection through Forum Group Discussion (FGD) and in-depth interviews with six students. The results showed that students interpreted denotative news on the Mongabay.co.id page as news that discussed the government's shortcomings in overcoming environmental problems and news on Mongabay.co.id showed a lack of literacy in society regarding environmental issues. Second, students interpret connotatively as news that shows the importance of the role of the younger generation in supporting climate crisis justice, the news builds readers' awareness that nature has a chain effect if damage occurs, but the news does not explain the actions taken by the younger generation to deal with the climate crisis, and the news does not explain the correlation between the younger generation and interfaith in dealing with the climate crisis. Third, the majority of students are in the contesting reading group, where students understand the message conveyed by Mongabay.co.id, but must previously go through an analysis process that compares it with the facts.

| Additional Information: | Penelitian ini membahas tentang pemaknaan mahasiswa mengenai isu lingkungan pada berita online. Dalam resepsi, khalayak diposisikan sebagai pihak yang memiliki kekuatan dalam menciptakan makna secara bebas terhadap pesan media yang dikonsumsi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pemaknaan mahasiswa mengenai isu lingkungan pada berita online. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan didukung oleh Teori Analisis Resepsi Carolyn Michelle serta pengumpulan data melalui Forum Group Discussion (FGD) dan wawancara mendalam terhadap enam mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mahasiswa memaknai denotatif berita di laman Mongabay.co.id sebagai berita yang membahas kekurangan pemerintah dalam mengatasi permasalahan lingkungan, dan berita di Mongabay.co.id menunjukkan kurangnya ilmu literasi pada masyarakat mengenai isu lingkungan. Kedua, mahasiswa memaknai konotatif sebagai berita yang menunjukkan pentingnya peran generasi muda untuk mendukung keadilan krisis iklim, berita membangun kesadaran pembaca bahwa alam memiliki efek yang berantai apabila terjadi kerusakan, berita tidak menjelaskan tindakan yang dilakukan generasi muda untuk menangani krisis iklim, serta berita tidak menjelaskan korelasi antara generasi muda dan lintas iman dalam menangani krisis iklim. Ketiga, mayoritas mahasiswa berada dalam kelompok contesting reading, dimana mahasiswa memahami pesan yang disampaikan oleh Mongabay.co.id, akan tetapi sebelumnya harus melewati proses analisis yang membandingkannya dengan fakta. | ||||||
