Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the effectiveness of using You-Tube video to improve students speaking skill at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Petir. The researcher used a quantitative method by implementing a quasi experimental research design. The population of this study 90 students from three class (7A-7C). then, there were 2 samples that researcher used in this research, 7A as experimental class and 7B as Control class. She used cluster random sampling as the sampling technique. Then, the data were analyzed by using IBM SPSS 25.0 version. The analysis’s finding showed that the mean post-test score in experimental class was higher than control class (61.49 > 61.31). This indicates students’ speaking skill in experimental class was better than control class after getting treatment by using YouTube videos. Meanwhile, based on the result of the analysis on t-test with significance level 1.790 and t-table on sig. 0.05 : 2 = 0.025 (2-tailed test) with degrees of freedom (df) n-2 or 36-2 = 3 was 1.635. it means t-count was higher than t-table (1.790 > 1.635). Furthermore, Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that there is an effect of using Youtube video to improve students speaking skill at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 1 Petir.

Additional Information: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan video You-Tube untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa di kelas tujuh SMP Negeri 1 Petir. Peneliti menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan menerapkan desain penelitian quasi eksperimen. Populasi penelitian ini 90 siswa dari tiga kelas (7A-7C). Kemudian terdapat 2 sampel yang peneliti gunakan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu 7A sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 7B sebagai kelas Kontrol. Teknik pengambilan sampelnya adalah cluster random sampling. Kemudian data dianalisis dengan menggunakan IBM SPSS versi 25.0. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata nilai post-test kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol (61.49 > 61.31). Hal ini menunjukkan keterampilan berbicara siswa di kelas eksperimen lebih baik dibandingkan kelas kontrol setelah mendapatkan perlakuan dengan menggunakan video YouTube. Sedangkan berdasarkan hasil analisis uji-t dengan taraf signifikansi 1,790 dan t-tabel pada sig. 0,05 : 2 = 0,025 (uji 2 sisi) dengan derajat kebebasan (df) n-2 atau 36-2 = 3 adalah 1,635. Artinya thitung lebih besar dari ttabel (1,790 > 1,635). Selanjutnya Ho ditolak dan Ha diterima. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh penggunaan video Youtube untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara siswa di kelas tujuh SMP Negeri 1 Petir.
