Abstract

Water is an essential natural resource needed by all living things and is a vital basic need in everyday life. However, with the increase in population and industrial activity, clean water supplies are increasingly running low. Therefore, it is important to take steps to maintain the availability of clean water. Currently, almost every house is equipped with a water reservoir to reduce water waste, however monitoring of water in the reservoir is still done manually, which is less efficient and time consuming. In addition, irregular filling of reservoirs can cause leaks and waste of water. Internet of Things (IoT) based water discharge monitoring is an efficient solution for monitoring water discharge in reservoirs. The IoT system allows collecting water discharge data automatically and sending the data to other devices such as computers or smartphones, so that users can monitor it from anywhere. The IoT platform used is Thinger.io. This research aims to monitor the flow rate and water discharge in an IoT-based reservoir and utilize the water in the reservoir to drive a generator for 60 minutes. Water is filled during the day using a pump, and the water is supplied to rotate the generator at night. The research results show that the monitoring system can be used to measure water discharge in reservoirs using IoT. The monitoring system can measure water discharge data, the monitoring results show that the input water discharge is smaller than the output water discharge, the output discharge has a low value in the monitoring results because the volume of water contained in the storage tank is small, the value of the output discharge released is influenced by volume of water in the storage tank.
