Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the ability and improvement of understanding of mathematical concepts of students who get Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning better than students who get regular learning and to know the ability and increase self-efficacy of students who get RME learning better than students who get regular learning. This research was conducted by using a quasi-experimental method with non-equivalent control group research design. The students of class VII MTsN 5 Serang school year 2017/2018 were population in this study. The sample used the cluster random sampling technique to select two classes, namely the experimental class is treated with RME learning and the control class gets the regular learning treatment. The instruments used are the ability to understand mathematical concepts and non-test of students' self-efficacy scale. The results of the study concluded that: (1) Achievement of the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who are learning with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach is better than students who get regular learning, (2) Improving the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who get learning with Realistic Mathematics approaches Education (RME) is better than students who get regular learning, (3) Achieving self-efficacy of students who get learning with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach is better than students who get regular learning, and (4) Increasing student self-efficacy who get learning with the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach better than students who get regular learning.
