Abstract

The objective of the research are to describe the process of teaching writing by using video as media and to investigate the improvement of students’ writing in procedure text. To achieve the objective of the research, the researcher conducted classroom action research. This classroom action research held at MTsN Model Pasir Sukarayat Rangkasbitung. The subject of the study is 8A which consisted of 33 students. The method of the research is CAR (classroom action research). The researcher carried out three steps. The first steep was the pre-test. The second steps were the action. The action was consisted of two cycles. The difference between these cycles was on topic and activity. Each cycle consisted of teaching learning process and a test. The last steps were the post-test. The instruments used in data collecting technique were test, observation, and documentation. The test was to measure the students’ improvement. The researcher also made notes. It was used to observe the situation of the class during each activity of this study and documentation included students’ test, lesson plan, observation sheet, and students score. Besides, the researcher took some pictures when the teaching learning occurred. In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative measurement to find the result. The main of qualitative was to search information and asses a situation in the classroom and quantitative research supported the qualitative data. The analysis of the data showed there was a significant difference of the students’ achievement in the pre-test and post-test. The students’ achievement in pre-test is 39.39%. The average score of the students’ achievement in the first cycle is 56.06% and the second cycle is 84.09%. The improvement about 16.67% in pre-test to post-test one and 28.03% to post-test one to post-test two. The improvement was the students’ interest in teaching learning process by using video. Based on this data, the researcher concluded that improving students’ writing in procedure text by using video as media was very beneficial for the students in order to facilitate them in learning procedure text.
