Abstract
This study is aimed to find out wether there is any significant effect of using songs in teaching learning process or not in order to improve eight grade students’ simple past tense mastery. The research employed statistical parametric data anlysis and pre-test post-test control group design which includes to true experimental research. The data has been collected using grammar test and analyzed by using t-test formula. The data analysis shows that there is a significant difference (10,91) between the average gain between two classess, in which experimental class (36,67) is higher than control class (25,76). The t-test value of the calculation is higher than the critical t-value (2,55 > 1,997). So, the null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted. Using songs in teaching learning process is proven to be effective to improve eight grade students’ simple past tense mastery. It because songs is familiar and can help students to memorize the verbs from the song lyrics. Keywords: effectiveness, songs, improvement of simple past tense mastery
