Abstract

The objectives of the research were to describe teaching learning process by using Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy and to find improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive text after using that strategy at MTs Al-Mubarok Serang. This research problem was focused on students’ difficulties in writing descriptive text. So, the researcher used Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy to help students in expressing idea, organizing paragraph, understanding grammar, mastering vocabulary, and producing correct mechanic. Those were elements of descriptive text which should be paid attention in order to have good writing. This strategy had three main process of teaching and learning activities. Firstly, in thinking process, students were encouraged to think and observe. Secondly, in talking process, students had discussion time. Thirdly, in writing process, students put their-ideas=into=written=form. In this research, the researcher used qualitative method by using Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two cycles. Each cycles had four steps, such as planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of the research was 31 students of class 7 A. After implementing Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy, students’ ability in writing descriptive text improved step by step. Before giving the treatment, students only got 60.45 in pre test. Then, after giving treatment in cycle 1, students had improvement around 11.87 points from pre test 60.45 became 72.32 in average score of cycle 1 test. After giving treatment in cycle 2, students was successful by having improvement 9.42 points from 72.32 became 81.74 in average score of post test. It passed 75 as standard minimum score (KKM) of English subject. So, the use of Think-Talk-Write (TTW) strategy in improving students’ ability in writing descriptive text was successful.
