Abstract

This research was aimed to know the effect of the sanding method and soaking time in sulfuric acid (H2SO4) on the viability of keranji tamarind (Dialium indum L.) seeds. This research was conducted from April until May 2024 at Perum Bonana Permai. This research used a 2 factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor was the seed sanding method which consisted of 3 levels, namely P0 (without sanding), P1 (sanding in the area of potential buds), P2 (sanding at the bottom end of the seed). The second factor was the length of soaking in H2SO4 which consisted of 4 levels, namely L1 (soaking time 5 minutes), L2 (soaking time 10 minutes), L3 (soaking time 15 minutes), L4 (soaking time 20 minutes). There were 5 parameters observed, namely age of germination (days), maximum growth potential (%), percentage of germination power (%), growth speed (%/day), and percentage of abnormal sprouts (%). The results showed that the sanding method at the bottom of the seed showed the best results in the parameters of germination age (6.44 days) and maximum growth potential (100%). H2SO4 soaking time for 10 minutes tends to have a better effect on the parameters of percentage of germination age (10.72 days), maximum growth potential (98.89%) and percentage of abnormal sprouts (1.89%). There was no interaction between the sanding method treatment and the length of H2SO4 soaking to all parameters observed.

Additional Information: Asam keranji (Dialium indum L.), termasuk kedalam famili Fabaceae. Asam keranji adalah tumbuhan tropis yang tumbuh secara alami di Negara Thailand, Malaysia, serta Indonesia. Terdapat kendala dalam perbanyakan benih asam keranji secara generatif yaitu masa perkecambahannya yang sangat panjang dan persentase perkecambahannya yang rendah, hal ini disebabkan karena biji asam keranji memiliki kulit yang keras dan tebal sehingga sulit untuk menyerap air. Maka perlu dilakukan perlakuan pendahuluan untuk mematahkan dormansi benih asam keranji. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode pengamplasan dan lama perendaman asam sulfat (H2SO4) terhadap viabilitas benih asam keranji (Dialium indum L.). Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada bulan April sampai Mei 2024 yang bertempat di Perum Bonana Permai. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) 2 faktorial. Faktor pertama yaitu metode pengamplasan benih yang terdiri dari 3 taraf yaitu P0 (tanpa pengamplasan), P1 (pengamplasan di area calon mata tunas), P2 (pengamplasan diujung bawah benih). Faktor kedua yaitu lama perendaman H2SO4 yang terdiri dari 4 taraf yaitu L1 (lama perendaman 5 menit), L2 (lama perendaman 10 menit), L3 (lama perendaman 15 menit), L4 (lama perendaman 20 menit). Terdapat 5 parameter yang diamati yaitu umur berkecambah (hari), potensi tumbuh maksimum (%), persentase daya berkecambah (%), kecepatan tumbuh (%/hari), dan persenstase kecambah abnormal (%). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode pengamplasan diujung bawah benih menunjukkan hasil terbaik pada parameter umur berkecambah (6,44 hari) dan potensi tumbuh maksimum (100%). Lama perendaman H2SO4 selama 10 menit memberikan pengaruh cenderung lebih baik terhadap parameter persentase umur berkecambah (10,72 hari), potensi tumbuh maksimum (98,89%) dan persentase kecambah abnormal (1,89%). Tidak terdapat interaksi antara perlakuan metode pengamplasan dan lama perendaman H2SO4 terhadap semua parameter yang diamati.
