Abstract
This research aims to determine the effect of applying flashcards as a learning aid on students’ vocabulary mastery in the fourth grade at SDN Jerang Barat, Kota Cilegon. The quantitative research design used in this study is an experimental research method, with a sample comprising 30 students in the experimental class and 30 students in the control class. The researcher employed a quasi-experimental approach for data collection. Based on the findings, there were differences in students’ vocabulary mastery between the experimental class, which received treatment using flashcards, and the control class, which received conventional instruction. Vocabulary mastery in the experimental class significantly improved, while vocabulary mastery in the control class slightly decreased. The researcher concluded that flashcards positively affected students’ vocabulary mastery in the fourth grade at SDN Jerang Barat, Kota Cilegon, for the academic year 2023/2024. The hypothesis test using an Independent Sample T-test showed that the significance (2-tailed) was less than 0.05, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Hα). Additionally, the effect size was 2.13, indicating a high level of impact. This demonstrates that flashcards as a learning aid significantly influenced students’ vocabulary mastery. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of flashcards had a positive effect on students' vocabulary, as evidenced by improvements in their vocabulary mastery.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan efek penerapan kartu flash sebagai alat bantu belajar terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas empat di SDN Jerang Barat, Kota Cilegon. Desain penelitian kuantitatif yang digunakan dalam studi ini adalah metode penelitian eksperimen, dengan sampel yang terdiri dari 30 siswa di kelas eksperimen dan 30 siswa di kelas kontrol. Peneliti menggunakan pendekatan kuasi-eksperimen untuk pengumpulan data. Berdasarkan temuan, terdapat perbedaan dalam penguasaan kosakata siswa antara kelas eksperimen yang mendapatkan perlakuan menggunakan kartu flash dan kelas kontrol yang mendapatkan instruksi konvensional. Penguasaan kosakata di kelas eksperimen meningkat secara signifikan, sementara penguasaan kosakata di kelas kontrol sedikit menurun. Peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa kartu flash memiliki pengaruh positif terhadap penguasaan kosakata siswa kelas empat di SDN Jerang Barat, Kota Cilegon, untuk tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Uji hipotesis menggunakan Independent Sample T-test menunjukkan bahwa signifikansi (2-tailed) kurang dari 0,05, yang mengarah pada penolakan hipotesis nol (Ho) dan penerimaan hipotesis alternatif (Hα). Selain itu, ukuran efek adalah 2,13, yang menunjukkan tingkat dampak yang tinggi. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kartu flash sebagai alat bantu belajar secara signifikan mempengaruhi penguasaan kosakata siswa.
