Abstract

There were two objectives of this research. The first objective was to investigate the process of teaching reading comprehension in narrative text by using story grammar. The second objective was to know the improvement of students reading comprehension in narrative text by using story grammar. The research was conducted at the first grade of SMA Al. Mubarok Serang. In this research, the writer used classroom action research as the research method. It consisted of three cycles, first cycle consisted of three meetings whereas the second and the third consisted of two meetings. The instruments that were used to get the data in this research were test, observation, and documentation. The result showed that Story Grammar Strategy could improve students’ reading comprehension. The improvement can be seen in their score of pre- test and post- test 1-3. The result of their pre- test was 52, 8 and their post-test were 68, 26 for post- test 1; 79, 4 for post- test 2, and 89, 8 for post-test 3. The result also showed that the students could identified the story grammar and they were succesfully improve their reading comprehension. The conclusion is story grammar was effective for teaching reading comprehension. Keyword: Reading Comprehension, Narrative, Story Grammar
