Abstract
In the era of globalization and information technology, the ability to think critically is a very important skill for student to have. This ability is not only useful in academy context, but also in everyday life to make informed and rational decisions. However, research show that many students still have difficulty in using critical thinking skills, especially when reading narrative texts. This study aims to identify the difficulties experienced by students in using critical thinking skills when reading narrative texts. In addition, this study aims to find effective teaching strategies to improve students' critical thinking in this context. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The research participants were junior high school who were selected by purpose sampling. The data obtained were analyzed using thematic analysis techniques to identify the main themes that emerged from the data. The results showed that students experienced several difficulties in using critical thinking skills when reading narrative texts, including difficulties in analyzing characters, understanding the storyline, and identifying key themes. In addition, the study found that the use of teaching strategies involving group discussions and open-ended questions can help improve students' critical thinking skills. The implications of this study show that teachers need to develop more Interactive and collaborative teaching strategies to improve students' critical thinking skills. Additionally, it is important for schools to provide training for teachers in teaching critical thinking skills. This research also contributes to the educational literature by providing insight into the difficulties experienced by students and effective strategies to overcome them.

| Additional Information: | Di era globalisasi dan teknologi informasi, kemampuan untuk berpikir kritis merupakan kemampuan yang sangat penting untuk dimiliki oleh mahasiswa. Kemampuan ini tidak hanya berguna dalam konteks akademis, tetapi juga dalam kehidupan sehari-hari untuk mengambil keputusan yang tepat dan rasional. Namun, penelitian menunjukkan bahwa masih banyak siswa yang mengalami kesulitan dalam menggunakan kemampuan berpikir kritis, terutama ketika membaca teks naratif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesulitan yang dialami siswa dalam menggunakan keterampilan berpikir kritis ketika membaca teks naratif. Selain itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan strategi pengajaran yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dalam konteks ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan analisis dokumen. Partisipan penelitian adalah siswa sekolah menengah pertama yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis tematik untuk mengidentifikasi tema-tema utama yang muncul dari data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa mengalami beberapa kesulitan dalam menggunakan keterampilan berpikir kritis ketika membaca teks naratif, termasuk kesulitan dalam menganalisis karakter, memahami alur cerita, dan mengidentifikasi tema-tema utama. Selain itu, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa penggunaan strategi pengajaran yang melibatkan diskusi kelompok dan pertanyaan terbuka dapat membantu meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Implikasi dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa guru perlu mengembangkan lebih banyak strategi pengajaran yang interaktif dan kolaboratif untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berpikir kritis siswa. Selain itu, penting bagi sekolah untuk memberikan pelatihan bagi para guru dalam mengajarkan keterampilan berpikir kritis.
