Abstract
Mental retardation is a term for someone with late intellectual development. A person is categorized as mentally retarded if their IQ level is below the normal average, which results in their growth and development process requiring appropriate assistance and services, including educational programs. In this case, the program in question is a special self-development program which aims to form individual independence without depending on other people. An example of a special self-development program for mentally retarded children is training to use their own toilet (toilet training). In this study, a descriptive research method was used with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques apply a system of observation, interviews, documentation and field notes. Data analysis was carried out through stages of reduction, presentation and drawing conclusions. The parenting pattern implemented by each parent towards toilet training learning for mentally retarded children aged 8-12 years at SKh Negeri 02 Serang City is that parent D applies a combination of permissive and democratic parenting patterns. Z's parents implement an authoritarian pattern. Parent A with a permissive parenting style. R's parent implements a combination of the three. Parental parenting styles play an important role in the progress of children's independence, however, the type of parenting that parents are implementing is still considered less relevant to children's independence outcomes. Therefore, the implementation of parenting requires appropriate portions and dispositions from parents so that they are able to create children's independence that is appropriate and useful in all aspects.

Additional Information: | Tunagrahita merupakan istilah bagi seseorang dengan perkembangan intelegensi terlambat. Seseorang dikategorikan tunagrahita apabila tingkat IQ berada di bawah rata-rata normal, yang mengakibatkan proses tumbuh kembangnya membutuhkan bantuan serta layanan yang sesuai, termasuk program pendidikannya. Dalam hal ini, program yang dimaksud yakni program khusus bina diri dimana bertujuan membentuk kemandirian individu tanpa bergantung pada orang lain. Contoh dari program khusus bina diri anak tunagrahita sedang salah satunya latihan menggunakan toilet sendiri (toilet training). Pada studi ini, menggunakan metode penilitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menerapkan sistem observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, serta catatan lapangan. Analisis data dilaksanakan melalui tahapan reduksi, penyajian, serta penarikan kesimpulan. Pola pengasuhan yang diimplementasikan masing-masing orangtua terhadap pembelajaran toilet training anak tunagrahita usia 8- 12 tahun di SKh Negeri 02 Kota Serang yakni orang tua D menerapkan pola asuh kombinasi antara permisif serta demokratis. Orang tua Z mengimplementasikan pola otoriter. Orang tua A dengan pola asuh permisif. Orang tua R mengimplementasikan kombinasi dari ketiganya. Pola asuh orang tua berperan penting pada kemajuan kemandirian anak, akan tetapi jenis pola asuh yang sedang diimplementasikan orangtua masih dianggap kurang relevan dengan hasil kemandirian anak. Oleh sebab itu, penerapanan pola asuh membutuhkan porsi serta pembawaan yang tepat dari orangtua agar kiranya mampu menciptakan kemandirian anak yang sesuai dan berguna dalam segala aspek. | |||||||||
