Abstract

The soil used as a foundation layer in construction must possess adequate quality and bearing capacity to support the loads from the structure above. This study aims to identify the classification and physical properties of soil and evaluate the effects of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) and lime as stabilizers on soil characteristics and unconfined compressive strength. Physical property testing was conducted on both the original and mixed soils, including measurements of bulk density, particle size distribution, liquid limit, and plasticity limit. Unconfined compressive strength was measured using an unconfined compression tester (UCT). Test variations included GGBFS at 0% and 20%, and lime at 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9%. Water addition was adjusted to the optimum moisture content of each mixture, with curing times of 0, 7, 14, and 28 days. Results indicate that the original soil is classified as OH according to the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS), with a plasticity index (PI) of 21.127%. The addition of GGBFS and lime reduced the liquid limit and plasticity index, with the lowest PI of 3.77% achieved at variation E (20% GGBFS + 9% lime) after 28 days. The maximum unconfined compressive strength of 4.175 kg/cm² was observed in this variation.

Additional Information: Tanah yang digunakan sebagai lapisan dasar dalam konstruksi harus memiliki kualitas dan daya dukung yang memadai untuk menahan beban dari struktur di atasnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi klasifikasi dan sifat fisik tanah serta mengevaluasi efek Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBFS) dan kapur sebagai stabilisator terhadap karakteristik tanah dan nilai kuat tekan bebas. Pengujian sifat fisik dilakukan pada tanah asli dan campurannya, meliputi pengukuran berat jenis, analisis ukuran butir, batas cair, dan batas plastis. Kuat tekan bebas diukur menggunakan unconfined compression tester (UCT). Variasi bahan uji mencakup GGBFS pada 0% dan 20%, serta kapur pada 0%, 3%, 6%, dan 9%. Penambahan air disesuaikan dengan kadar air optimum dari masing-masing campuran, dan pemeraman dilakukan selama 0, 7, 14, dan 28 hari. Hasil menunjukkan tanah asli tergolong OH menurut Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) dengan indeks plastisitas (IP) 21,127%. Penambahan GGBFS dan kapur menurunkan batas cair dan indeks plastisitas, dengan nilai PI terkecil 3,77% pada variasi E (20% GGBFS + 9% kapur) setelah 28 hari. Kuat tekan maksimal sebesar 4,175 kg/cm² dicapai pada variasi ini.
