Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of applying the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) method in improving expressive language skills in children with autism class IV at State SKh 01 Serang City. The method used in this research is an experimental method using Single Subject Research (SSR). The design used is the A-B-A design. The subjects in this study were fourth grade SDKh students with autism who had non-verbal communication skills but very little verbal communication. The inability to communicate experienced by autism subjects causes the subject to experience difficulties in expressive language. Data collection techniques used are observation, tests and documentation. Based on the results of the study, the subject obtained a mean level or average percentage in the baseline-1 phase (A1) to obtain a result of 33%, which in this phase was in the subject's natural condition before being given treatment. Then in the intervention phase (B) the subject was given treatment in the form of applying the PECS method by obtaining a percentage of 83.37%. And finally, in the baseline-2 (A2) phase, the result was 71%, which in this phase was in the condition after the treatment was given. The percentage of data overlap in the intervention phase (B) to the baseline-1 phase (A1) and in the baseline-2 phase (A2) to the intervention phase (B) is 0%. So it can be concluded that this study can answer the research hypothesis, namely the application of the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) method is effective in increasing expressive language skills in children with autism at State Special School 01 Serang City.

Additional Information: | Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari penerapan metode Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa ekspresif pada anak autisme kelas IV di SKh Negeri 01 Kota Serang. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode eksperimen dengan menggunakan Single Subject Research (SSR). Desain yang digunakan yaitu desain A-B-A . Subjek dalam penelitian ini yaitu siswa kelas IV SDKh dengan gangguan autisme yang memiliki kemampuan komunikasi non verbal namun minim sekali dalam berkomunikasi verbal. Ketidakmampuan berkomunikasi yang dialami subjek autisme menyebabkan subjek mengalami kesulitan dalam berbahasa ekspresif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan yaitu observasi, tes dan dokumentasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang diperoleh subjek mendapat mean level atau rata-rata persentase pada fase baseline-1 (A1) menperoleh hasil 33% dimana pada fase ini dalam kondisi alamiah subjek sebelum diberikan perlakuan. Kemudian pada fase intervensi (B) subjek diberikan perlakuan berupa penerapan metode PECS dengan memperoleh hasil persentase yaitu 83,37%. Dan yang terakhir pada fase baseline-2 (A2) memperoleh hasil 71% dimana pada fase ini dalam kondisi setelah diberiknnya perlakuan. Persentase data overlap pada fase intervensi (B) ke fase baselien-1 (A1) dan pada fase baseline-2 (A2) ke fase intervensi (B) yaitu 0%. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa penelitian ini dapat menjawab hipotesis penelitian yaitu penerapan metode Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa ekspresif pada anak Autisme di Sekolah Khusus Negeri 01 Kota Serang. | |||||||||
