Abstract

Seaweed is a fishery commodity that has high economic value in cultivation. There are only 2 types of seaweed cultivated on Panjang Island: Eucheuma cottonii or Kappaphycus alvarezii. This research aims to identify the types of seaweed found in Panjang Island waters and analyze its potential as a cultivation commodity. This research was conducted using the observation method and was carried out in May 2024 on Panjang Island, Serang Regency, Banten Province. Identification was carried out at the Aquaculture Laboratory (BDP) Fisheries Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa University. The sampling technique used is purposive random sampling, which collects all types of wild seaweed (wild species) found at each sampling station. The results were collected, presented in table form, and then analyzed descriptively. Furthermore, the data is identified using an identification book reference, data centre "algae base” and other related literature. The research results showed that 16 species of macroalgae were found, consisting of 5 types of red algae, 5 types of green algae, and 6 types of brown algae. Of the 16 species identified, 9 types have been cultivated in Indonesia and 7 types have never been cultivated. The types that can be grown are types Gracilaria coronopifolia, Gracilaria salicornia, Kappaphycus alvarezii, Ulva lactuca, Caulerpa lentillifera, Sargassum crassifolium, Sargassum polycystum, Sargassum cinereum, and Padina australis. Some of these types certainly have the potential to be used as cultivation commodities in Panjang Island waters.

Additional Information: Rumput laut merupakan komoditas perikanan yang memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi dalam budidaya. Hanya ada 2 jenis rumput laut yang dibudidayakan di Pulau Panjang: Eucheuma cottonii atau Kappaphycus alvarezii. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis rumput laut yang ditemukan di perairan Pulau Panjang dan menganalisis potensinya sebagai komoditas budidaya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode observasi dan dilaksanakan pada Mei 2024 di Pulau Panjang, Kabupaten Serang, Provinsi Banten. Identifikasi dilakukan di Laboratorium Perikanan Akuakultur (BDP) Program Studi Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Sultan Ageng Tirtayasa. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan adalah purposive random sampling, yang mengumpulkan semua jenis rumput laut liar (spesies liar) yang ditemukan di setiap stasiun pengambilan sampel. Hasiln dikumpulkan, disajikan dalam bentuk tabel, dan kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Selanjutnya, data diidentifikasi menggunakan referensi buku identifikasi, pangkalan data "alga base" dan literatur terkait lainnya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 16 spesies makroalga ditemukan, terdiri dari 5 jenis alga merah, 5 jenis alga hijau, dan 6 jenis alga coklat. Dari 16 spesies yang diidentifikasi, 9 jenis memiliki telah dibudidayakan di Indonesia dan 7 jenis belum pernah dibudidayakan. Jenis-jenis yang bisa ditanam adalah jenis Gracilaria coronopifolia, Gracilaria salicornia, Kappaphycus alvarezii, Ulva lactuca, Caulerpa lentillifera, Sargassum crassifolium, Sargassum polycystum, Sargassum cinereum, dan Padina australis. Beberapa jenis tersebut tentu berpotensi untuk dijadikan komoditas budidaya di perairan Pulau Panjang.
