Abstract
Melon is an annual fruit plant originating from the border between West Asia, Europe and Africa. Melon is a plant that people like because it tastes sweet and contains vitamins and minerals. The demand for melons increases every year, but the melon seeds used are imported seeds, making it less efficient in melon cultivation. Therefore, characterization is an important stage in plant breeding before the release of the local variety. This study aims to determine the effect of gamma ray irradiation treatment on each observed characteristic of melon minions. The research was conducted in November 2023-February 2024 at PT. Fitotech Agri Lestari, Dramaga, Bogor. The research used single plant method, consisting of 4 treatments: G0 (Control), G1 (100 Gy), G2 (200 Gy), G3 (300 Gy). The observed parameters consist of qualitative and quantitative characters. The data were analyzed by Analysis of variance and followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test at the 5% significance level. The result show that gamma ray irradiation significantly affected plant height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaves, rod diameter, male and female flowering age, fruit width, and thickness of the fruit. It is also known that the LD₅₀ values were 138,41 Gy.
