Abstract

Clean water is needed by living things in meeting their daily needs. The lack of quantitative clean water is due to the fact that 97% of the water on earth is seawater, so with a salt content of around 35000 mg/l, the water cannot be used directly without the presence of water. processing first. The clean water crisis in the North Serang area, where the water is brackish, has made the Serang District Housing and Settlement Area Service (DPKPTB) looking for a simple technology that can treat brackish water so that it can be consumed. Banten Province has natural wealth in the form of zeolite which is located in the Bayah area, Lebak Regency. This study aims to determine the effect of coagulant concentration and zeolite activator concentration on brackish water adsorption, determine the best concentration of NH4NO3 activator for brackish water adsorption, and analyze the characteristics of zeolite using Surface Area Analyzer (SAA) analysis. The research method used is brackish water treatment with coagulation-flocculation method using Polyaluminium Chloride (PAC) coagulant with various concentrations of 50, 100, 120, 140, 150, 160, 180, 200, 250 mg/l, and adsorption using natural zeolite adsorbents. Bayah (ZAB) was activated by NH4NO3 with a concentration of 2 N and variations in the mass ratio of zeolite to brackish water (1:10) and variations in stirring time, namely 60, 80, 100, 120, 140 minutes. The analysis performed were salinity, Total Dosolve Solid (TDS), and pH. The best results were pretreatment using PAC at a concentration of 160 mg/l and adsorption stirring time using activated Bayah natural zeolite at 120 minutes with the final results of salinity, TDS, and pH of 567 ppm, 0.59 ppt, and 6.8, respectively.
