Abstract

Melon is a horticultural product that has a high selling value. Unstable production is caused by the lack of seed availability, so the assembly of melon varieties through plant breeding is carried out. This study aims to determine the phenotypic appearance of yield characters of three strains of golden melon variety candidates. This research was conducted in Karangtengah Village, Pabean Urban Village, Purwakarta District, Cilegon City from January to March 2024. This study used a non-factorial group randomized design, consisting of 5 treatments, namely 3 strains of golden melon candidate varieties (UT-1, UT-2 and UT-3) and 2 comparison varieties (Alisha and Kinanti). Each melon strains and comparison varieties were planted in 5 experimental blocks which were planted as many as 10 plants in each block. The analysis used was descriptive analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), DMRT further test at 5% level and uniformity assessment using the coefficient of variance of the data. The results showed that UT-1, UT-2 and UT-3 strains have phenotypic appearance and uniformity in each strain. The results of the coefficient of diversity in the three strains tested had a value of < 25%. UT-3 melon strains have similarities with the comparison varieties in the parameters of fruit weight (average weight of 2141 g) and sugar content (average 11.4^obrix) so that it can be further tested for uniformity and variety registration.

Additional Information: Melon adalah produk hortikultura dengan nilai jual tinggi. Produksi yang tidak stabil disebabkan oleh kurangnya ketersediaan benih, sehingga perakitan varietas melon melalui pemuliaan tanaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan penampilan fenotipik karakter hasil dari tiga calon varietas golden melon. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Desa Karangtengah, Kelurahan Pabean, Kecamatan Purwakarta, Kota Cilegon dari Januari hingga Maret 2024. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok non-faktorial, yang terdiri dari 5 perlakuan, yaitu 3 galur calon varietas golden melon (UT-1, UT-2, dan UT-3) dan 2 varietas pembanding (Alisha dan Kinanti). Setiap galur melon dan varietas pembanding ditanam dalam 5 blok percobaan yang masing-masing ditanam sebanyak 10 tanaman. Analisis yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif, analisis ragam (ANOVA), uji lanjut DMRT pada tingkat 5%, dan penilaian keseragaman menggunakan koefisien keragaman data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa galur UT-1, UT-2, dan UT-3 memiliki penampilan fenotipik dan keseragaman dalam setiap galur. Hasil koefisien keragaman dari ketiga galur yang diuji memiliki nilai < 25%. Galur melon UT-3 memiliki kesamaan dengan varietas pembanding pada parameter berat buah (rata-rata 2141 g) dan kandungan gula (rata-rata 11,4° brix), sehingga dapat diuji lebih lanjut untuk keseragaman dan pendaftaran varietas.
