Abstract

Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a holticultural commodity originating in the family Cucurbitaceae, which is in demand at home and abroad. Public demand is rising, but the decline in production is due to several factors, one of which is the availability of seeds. The solution, the use of hybrid melon varieties that are resistant to disease. Before the potential hybrid varieties are released, testing activities include the evaluation of plant morphological characteristics, and comparative testing with seeds that have been commercialized in the community. The purpose of this study was to determine the morphological diversity of vegetative and early generative characters of five melon genotypes (Cucumis melo L.) in Cilegon City. This research was conducted in Fitotech experimental garden located in Pabean Village, Purwakarta District, Cilegon City. The research design was non-factorial Randomized Group Design (RAK). This study consists of 5 treatments, namely there are 5 genotypes in the form of UT-1, UT-2, UT-3, Alisha and Kinanti. There were 5 blocks and each genotype was planted as many as 10 plants in each block, so there were 250 plants to be observed. The parameters observed are leaf shape, leaf lobe shape, leaf lobe shape, leaf color, stem color, male flower crown color, female flower crown color, leaf length, leaf width, stem diameter, male flower crown length, female flower crown width, male flower penducle length, female flower crown length, female flower crown width, female flower penducle length and ovary length. The results showed that in qualitative parameters the UT-1 genotype has a weak and short leaf lobe shape. In quantitative parameters there are significantly different results on the length of the female flower crown and the width of the female flower crown. There are very significantly different results on the length of the male flower penducle and the length of the female flower penducle.

Additional Information: Melon (Cucumis melo L.) merupakan salah satu komoditas holtikultura yang berasal dari keluarga Cucurbitaceae yang diminati di dalam dan luar negeri. Permintaan masyarakat semakin meningkat, namun penurunan produksi disebabkan oleh beberapa faktor, salah satunya ketersediaan benih. Solusinya, penggunaan varietas melon hibrida yang tahan terhadap penyakit. Sebelum calon varietas hibrida dilepas, kegiatan pengujian meliputi evaluasi karakter morfologi tanaman, dan uji banding dengan benih yang telah dikomersialkan di masyarakat. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui keragaman morfologi karakter vegetatif dan awal generatif lima genotip melon (Cucumis melo L.) di Kota Cilegon. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di kebun percobaan Fitotech yang berlokasi di Kelurahan Pabean, Kecamatan Purwakarta, Kota Cilegon. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) non faktorial. Penelitian ini terdiri dari 5 Perlakuan yaitu terdapat 5 genotipe berupa UT-1, UT-2, UT-3, Alisha dan Kinanti. Terdapat 5 blok dan masing-masing genotipe ditanam sebanyak 10 tanaman pada tiap blok, sehingga terdapat 250 tanaman yang akan diamati. Parameter yang diamati yaitu bentuk daun, bentuk cuping daun, bentuk lobus daun, warna daun, warna batang, warna mahkota bunga jantan, warna mahkota bunga betina, panjang daun, lebar daun, diameter batang, panjang mahkota bunga jantan, lebar mahkota bunga betina, panjang penducle bunga jantan, panjang mahkota bunga betina, lebar mahkota bunga betina, panjang panjang penducle bunga betina dan panjang ovary. Hasil penelitian menunjukan pada parameter kualitatif genotipe UT-1 memiliki bentuk cuping daun yang lemah dan pendek. Pada parameter kuantitatif terdapat hasil beda nyata pada panjang mahkota bunga betina dan lebar mahkota bunga betina. Terdapat hasil sangat berbeda nyata pada panjang penducle bunga jantan dan panjang penducle bunga betina.
