Abstract

The objectives of this research were to find out the influence of using picture media to increase students’ ability in writing narrative text and to find out the students’ responses while studying writing narrative text by using picture media at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Bojonegara, Banten. The population of the research was at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Bojonegara, Banten in academic year 2014/2015. The two classes of the population were taken as the sample through clustering random sampling, namely VIIIC as experimental group and VIIIA as control group. The experimental group was taught by using picture media and the control group was taught without using picture. As instrument of the test, pre-test and post-test were given to both of groups. The research findings showed that there was improvement between pre-test and posttest result. It could be seen from the mean score pre-test of experimental group was 48.14 and control group was 46. After giving the treatment, the improvement could be seen for experimental group which had mean score of post-test was 66.89. Meanwhile, the mean score of post-test in the control group was 59.57. on the other hand, T-test was used to know the influence of using picture media toward students’ ability in writing narrative text. From the result of t-test calculation in post-test, it was obtained that t-test was higher than t-table (2.274 > 1.996). it means the Ha (alternative hypothesis) was accepted and there is an influence of using picture media toward students’ ability writing in narrative text at eighth grade of SMPN 1 Bojonegara, Banten. In addition, the result of questionnaire showed that all of the students (100%) gave positive responses toward picture media.
